While every other industry outside wine woke up to the need to create compelling digital experiences in the early 2010s, the wine world is still shaking off its slumber. Innovators like Jeff Gillis, get it. Today's consumers want more access to fun, social, educational experiences. Solutions that are more accessible and able to be tailored to different consumer interests beyond talking at them in tasting rooms. Moreover, they want to use digital experiences to enhance interpersonal relationships with friends and family, not distract them from it. If you still need to check out Jeff's Winelikes platform, you should. They are working on a similar principal to make learning about wine easier, more enjoyable, and more social for novices and experts alike. Their quizzes go beyond what Somm Says can deliver thru our digital tasting game by offering immersive quizzes that explore beyond the wine to the regions, grapes, and incredible people who produce it. Cheers to the mavericks like Jeff, who are trying to drag the stubborn wine industry to the digital water it desperately needs to survive.
The inspiration behind Winelikes is to encourage new wine drinkers to really immerse themselves into the world of wine- not just buy it. So ask a friend. Go out to dinner. Ask the sommelier what they suggest. Go to a wine store and tell them you have no idea where to begin. I believe that this will truly change the wine industry for the newbies. - Jeff Gillis Creator of the Winelikes App #winediscovery #winenovice #wineenthusiast #winedrinkers #wineinspiration #inspire #discoverwine #sommelier #winefriends #changewine #wineindustry #winenewbie

Whether it's a bold red with a juicy steak or a crisp white with seafood, the right combination enhances both the food and the wine. A few general tips: 🍇 𝐑𝐞𝐝 𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬 pair well with richer, more robust dishes like red meat or hearty pasta. 🍋 𝐖𝐡𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬 shine with lighter dishes like fish, poultry, or salads. 🍫 𝐅𝐨𝐫 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐭 A sweet wine can be the perfect match for chocolate or fruit-based desserts. Excited to share insights on pairing red wine with food! 🍷 When it comes to choosing the perfect wine to complement your meal, especially with red wine, it can be quite challenging. Red wines are known for their bold flavors and complexities, making the pairing process crucial. Considerations for pairing red wine with food include the wine's overpowering nature, lower acidity, fuller-bodied tannins, and high alcohol by volume (ABV) level. These elements play a significant role in how well the wine harmonizes with the flavors of the dish. Join me as we delve deeper into the art of pairing red wine with food, exploring the intricate balance between flavors and enhancing the dining experience. 🍇 #winepalate #RedWinePairing #WineAndFood #WineLovers #FoodPairing

Here's what makes you look like a tacky host: 1️⃣Taking too long to serve guests their first drink 2️⃣Serving different wines to different guests and saving the good stuff for your closest buddies 3️⃣Saying you have no more alcohol to serve Follow these tips to become a fantastic wine party host Chill your wines and prep your glasses in advance so that you can get the party started quickly and your guests don't have to wait for their first drink. Make sure you serve the same wine to everyone. If your guests are new to wine, go for easy-drinking, popular styles like Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Merlot, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon. Always stock more alcohol than you think you need. You'll be surprised how quickly you can run out of wine at a party. A 750 ml bottle of wine should ideally serve five standard servings of wine (150 ml)- use this math to stock up for your party. What are some of the other behaviour that make you look tacky as a host? Let me know in the comments below. Cheers! #sonalholland #masterofwine #winetips #wineparty #hostingtips #wineetiquette #wineexpert

Daily Dollop of Wallop #35 Okey dokey people... "Put yourselves in the shoes of the person you are serving. Be observant where you can. What do you notice? Do they seem rushed? Do they seem anxious or in some way relieved? If so, then anticipate this now gathered sense of relief that they feel, by offering them something that will switch them from being 'tight and buzzy' into 'warm and fuzzy' - with a glass of fizzy. Frame it and say it, just like that. Be playful with them all the while trying to relate to their sense of relief (that they have finally arrived at your restaurant and ready to reeeeeelax). This style of engagement is more often than not met with the same level as warmth that you give them and therefore, as a direct consequence, trust and expectation is now in your hands. This now means, you have their attention in a way that should allow you, to start talking to them about the 'new wines' you have on, or the 'wine of the week' or that rascal glass of Passarina you tasted before dinner service with your team. It starts and ends with people. The wine - well that's just the thing that gives them satisfaction. The comfort comes from you" This is an almost word for word account of what I said to a group of people last week during a wine training session. Leverage your beverage. #people #peopleandculture #humaninteraction #wine #winetasting #ukhospitality #winetrade #ontrade #winepeople #wineandfood #foodandwine
