🍷 Why do Ontario and Canadian wines deserve your attention and taste buds❓ https://lnkd.in/gsRVNkCN 📚 The LCBO published this interview in its current Vintages magazine: 🏆 Ottawa-based wine expert and author Natalie MacLean is a trusted resource for good wine and food who was awarded the 2024 Wine Growers Canada Wine Industry Champion Award earlier this year. 🍁 We recently sat down with her to discuss the changing landscape of Ontario wine. 🎤 I’ve seen (and tasted) the dramatic rise in Canadian wine quality, but also in perception. In the past, Canadian wines suffered from the “Céline-Dion-Shania-Twain syndrome.” 🌍 They needed validation abroad before they were accepted on their home turf. 👏 Well, they’ve been there, done that. They have the international competition medals and scores to prove it. 🥂 I urge my readers and subscribers to support wines made by underrepresented groups. 😋 This isn’t charity; these wines taste great. 🌟 When I see the remarkable achievements of these groups in the industry, I’m incredibly optimistic. 🤝 This award is a tremendous honour, not just for me. It’s also a recognition of the collaborative spirit that defines Canadian wine. 🍇 From those who grow the grapes and make the wine to those who market and buy it, this is a shared achievement. 🍾 Do you think the Ontario and Canadian wine scene has changed a lot recently❓ Let me know in the comments 👇 Cheers🥂, Natalie 🍷 PS Get my free "Ultimate Guide to Wine & Food Pairing" at: https://lnkd.in/gwDc7jVb ✉️ Or just DM me and ask for the guide! The frigid onset of the new year has yielded a bountiful harvest for winegrowers. The resurgence of winter, marked by temperatures plummeting to minus eleven degrees, has once again presented the opportunity to produce ice wine in January. Nevertheless, Ernst Büscher from the German Wine Institute (DWI) underscores the increasing rarity of ice wines. Although many wine-growing regions successfully harvested ice wine grapes this year, only a handful of wineries executed this distinctive harvest. Ice wine poses risks for winegrowers, requiring grapes to be thoroughly frozen for the harvest. The diminishing occurrence of icy temperatures has led to a decline in registered areas for ice wine harvests. Several wineries in Rheinhessen, Württemberg, Franconia, and the Moselle were able to initiate ice wine harvests in early December. Austria also commenced its ice wine harvest in December, with Burgenland, Lower Austria, and Styria participating. 🌬️✨ Österreich Wein Marketing GmbH - Austrian Wine Marketing Board - Deutsches Weininstitut, The German Wine Institute i.e. Wines of Germany worldwide Which ice wine varieties are on your must-try list? 🍷 #icewine #winegrowing #winemaking #wineknowledge #prowein #proweintradefair #prowein2024 #winebusiness #wineprofessionals #winetasting #wineshop #winetrends #tradefair #winetrade #winecommunity #winetradefair

🍇 What are the stories behind family-owned Canadian wineries❓ https://lnkd.in/gq8FxgFQ 🌱 There are four major regions in Canada that produce wines made from grapes: BC, Ontario, Quebec and Nova Scotia. 🍷 Ontario makes about 63% of the wine, BC 33% and 2% for each of Quebec and NS, with more than 700 wineries from coast to coast and 1,800 grape growers. 💰 Every bottle of 100% Canadian wine contributes $90 to the national economy versus just $16 for an imported bottle. 🏞️ Pride of place literally grounds them all. Often the land on which their vineyards are planted is owned by the family, in some cases for several generations. 🌿 I should also add that they all acknowledge that they farm on the traditional territories of our Indigenous nations. 🌍 Being deeply connected to the soil that makes your wine, especially when your name is on the bottle, is a very different mindset from wines conceived in a focus group and made by blending grapes that may be hundreds or thousands of kilometres apart without that connection. 🌳 Family-owned wineries are often driven more by legacy than by the bottom line. 🏆 Of course, they need to be profitable to stay in business, but they also want to create something they can hand down to future generations. 📦 These wineries will ship these wines and others they produce across the country right to your doorstep, so there’s never been a better time or an easier way to support our homegrown farmers from coast to coast on July 1st and throughout the summer! 🍁 Do you have a favourite Canadian wine❓ Let me know in the comments 👇 Cheers🥂, Natalie 🍷 PS Get my free "Ultimate Guide to Wine & Food Pairing" at: https://lnkd.in/gwDc7jVb ✉️ Or just DM me and ask for the guide! Always choose wines made by reputed producers You can drink great wine without breaking the bank if you know how to spot a fabulous bottle. There are skilled producers making quality wines for surprisingly affordable prices if you know where to find them. Here are the reasons why: Number 1: Established brands maintain high quality control even in their entry-level wines to meet consumer expectations. Number 2: Reputed brands' large-scale operations reduce production costs per bottle without compromising the quality. Number 3: Esteemed wine producers invest heavily in research to enhance quality, benefiting even their entry-level wines with advanced winemaking techniques. A great example of quality wines with accessible price points from a well-known producer is Penfolds Koonunga Hill Chardonnay and Shiraz Cabernet. These wines from Australia’s most illustrious producer are food-friendly and easy-drinking, featuring ripe fruit flavors for a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Have you tried any of the wines from Penfolds? Share your experience in the comments below, and don’t forget to share this video with your friends to help them find great budget wines. #sonalholland #masterofwine #Penfolds #Australia #AustralianWines #Winerecommendations #winelovers #wineproducers

The Crossroads of Wine: Beyond Quality 🍷🌍 All wineries believe they have special terroirs, unique and wonderful winemaking systems, and meticulous processes that produce unique and extraordinary wines. This is true. But the problem is that there are thousands upon thousands of wineries around the world, all doing things very well, producing enormous quantities of wine that the world then has to consume. And there's the real challenge: an oversaturation of product for a demand that simply can't absorb it all. Additionally, new generations are changing their drinking habits, with trends leaning towards healthier lifestyles and seeking other types of products. Recent international wine fairs clearly show us this: hundreds of countries, thousands of wineries, all with excellent wines. And here comes the uncomfortable question: "I know my wine is good, but is it really different from my competitors'?" Many winemakers will say "yes", but is it truly? It’s not about abandoning our commitment to quality. That is and will always be fundamental. But in this context, having an excellent product is no longer enough. We need to offer more: Is part of our sales revenue committed to improving our environment? Are we allocating some of it to help the underprivileged? We are at a critical crossroads. Can we navigate it? Are we willing to accept that, in addition to producing high-quality wines, we need to generate a positive impact on society? I invite everyone to reflect and share their opinions on this crucial issue for the future of our wineries and the wine industry as a whole. #Wine #Innovation #SocialResponsibility #Wineries #WineIndustry #ResponsibleConsumption

3 tips to find affordable hidden gems at a wine store🥂 It is a truth universally acknowledged that in order to drink great wine, you’ve got to flash your cash. We’re told time and time again that the very best stuff is going to cost a small fortune, and most of us don’t bother to question this when hunting for a fantastic new wine. Here are ways to enjoy wine without spending a fortune: 1️⃣ Trust Established Producers: Even entry-level wines from renowned producers surpass generic ones. Their reputation ensures quality. 2️⃣Opt for Warmer Regions: Instead of Bordeaux, consider South France. Spain, Portugal, Australia, parts of California, South Africa, and Chile benefit from ample sunshine, ensuring perfectly ripened, fruit-forward wines. These wines lack the green, unripe flavors, making them ideal for daily, affordable indulgence. 3️⃣Venture Beyond the Famous: Prestigious wine regions come with a hefty price tag. So instead of champagne explore New World sparklings from Australia. Embrace lesser-known grape varieties. Unfamiliar doesn't mean inferior; it often means exceptional value. Go on and share these hacks with your wine loving buddies and let's start discovering these hidden gems when next time we go wine shopping. #sonalholland #masterofwine #winetips #winetime #WineExpert #winehacks

Title: Buy Rioja Wines Online | Great Wines Direct Link: https://lnkd.in/e5ddTwWu Rioja Wines Rioja, which has denominación de origen calificada (D.O.Ca., "Qualified Designation of Origin," the top classification in Spanish wine legislation), is a wine area in Spain. Grapes from the autonomous entities of La Rioja, Navarre, and the Basque province of lava are used to make Rioja wine. The three zones of Rioja are Rioja Alta, Rioja Oriental, and Rioja Alavesa. Traditionally, many wines have included grapes from all three zones, while single-zone wines are slowly becoming more popular. Since its founding in 1925, the D.O.Ca. Rioja Regulating Council has authorised seven traditional varietals, four red and three white: Tempranillo, Garnacha tinta, Mazuelo (sometimes called Cariena), and Graciano are the red varietals. #rojawines #wines #greatwines #qualitywines #winestore #drinks #foodanddrinks #food
