Natasha Thompson-Duggan’s Post

So proud of all of the young women who are part of Shona Community. Recent events have further highlighted the need for change in the Irish education and justice systems to ensure that girls and women are better protected! This is a call out to the Government of Ireland from us the young women and girls of Ireland. We are The Shona Project Shona community, and we are calling on you to take action. Because we have had enough of feeling unsafe… Of knowing that walking alone in certain areas and at certain times is not an option for us. Of texting our friends to let us know when they get home safe. Of walking faster past certain groups to avoid drawing attention to ourselves. Of feeling like targets. Of feeling like prey. We are doing everything we can to keep ourselves and each other safe. The National Women's Council, Women's Aid, and The Shona Project continue to show up and fight for us. There are very many women who are already speaking out, and taking action, but it's time to acknowledge that this isn't for women to fix. It's for ALL of society to fix. It is NOT our responsibility to keep ourselves safe, We are asking YOU our Government to show up for us. We need better education, and we need to believe that justice will prevail. Because we are not numbers, we are young women who deserve equality and equity. We are tired of being brave, it’s time for YOU to be brave. We’re standing up and using our voices to demand change, Will you stand with us?? #weneedchange
