The real madness of March? Consuming March Madness... There are so many components to following along with the best tournament in sports. Apps I used to listen to/watch games: - HBO MAX - Paramount+ - Apple TV as hub to push me to the right app for the game I want to watch - SiriusXM to listen while cooking 2nd screen apps I used to supplement watching: - CBS Sports to check bracket (I'm in 1st 😎 ) - Bleacher Report to check scores - ESPN to read articles - DK and FanDuel to check bets . . . Some call this fragmentation, sure there's some of that, but fragmentation is an easy punching bag in the shift from linear to digital. What I see this as is digital unlocking more control of... How we consume. What we want to consume. Through the channel we want to consume. When we want to consume. Frankly, this is the reality all live sports have to combat given the volume of entertainment options and limited discretionary time and dollars people have. It's a powerful illustration of how the power balance has shifted from big network to little consumer (even if we have to put up with a bit of fragmentation 😉) #sportsbiz #sportsmedia #marchmadness

This summer, FOX Sports connected TikTok's dynamic platform with traditional TV viewing during the Euros and Copa América tournaments 📲 The network extended its audience reach and engagement by streaming live studio content on TikTok, inviting viewers to enjoy both main broadcasts and TikTok content. Key to this strategy is FOX Sports' innovative dual approach to studio shows, tailored for widescreen 16:9 and vertical 9:16 formats. With 80 feeds, two control rooms, two directors, and two producers per show for each format, the network ensured a seamless viewer experience across platforms. According to Michael Bucklin, SVP of digital at Fox Sports, "Realistically, most fans can't watch up to six games a day. The digital space is fun because we can keep them connected." Take a look ⬇️

Sports are so central to the hearts of Americans--and fandom of each sport is predictive of a host of other attitudes and behaviors, including propensity to churn or stay with streaming services. Certainly something for both sides to consider in the equation of sports rights negotiations.
We weren't surprised to learn that more than 70% of the new subs who came to Peacock for a January playoff game were still subscribing by the end of February, according to Antenna. Our SubScape data shows the NFL among the sports leagues with the highest concentration of stable, reliable SVOD subscribers in their fan bases. The NBA, MLB and Olympics also bring fan bases who happen to be relatively committed to streaming services once they sign up. Fans of many other sports, by their nature, are much more likely to come and go quickly when the event is over. Reach out for more details about Magid's predictive SVOD churn models.

Monday Madness: This weekend of NCAA basketball had the highest viewership EVER. An average of 9 million viewers tuned in across the weekend and Saturday had the highest first round tune in volume ever with 10.8 million people watching across the broadcast stations. This shows that live content is still very much alive and well, and consumers are craving content that doesn't force them to scroll through a long list of shows and movies to pick what to watch. The beauty of live TV and especially sports is that it takes the choice out of TV. You turn it on, you watch, you enjoy. We expect the trend to continue beyond sports with a shift more towards FAST streamers who provide more of a sit down and tune in solution than the premium streaming platforms that require curation and drive choice paralysis. We'll be watching to see if the trend continues and next weekend's games drive the needle up even higher!
