Service Line- Enterprise Analytics Leader

When hiring a team or candidate for a position one of the most important things that I look for is engagement, even more so than skills. If I a good leader I can teach someone any skill they are going to need, but teaching someone to engage is much more difficult! In doing an interview, be engaged, willing to learn, ask questions… also closely review that resume. Do not overdo it, just give me the facts. Give me your full work history. Too many times I have seen a resume where someone has gaps in employment periods and when asked they say “oh I was just working at …. and did not think it was relevant”. Whether it is Mcdonalds, Walmart, HEB, etc. all work history is relevant. What that tells me is you are anhustler and not willing to sit back and wait for something to happen, you got out there and did something to kepp moving forward while continuing to add to your skillset. Maybe you do not think flipping burgers at Mcdonalds is adding anything to you, but as someone hiring I look at that as someone that can follow directions, read a write up of what is needed, customer interaction, all great skills to be proud of and been told in an interview they were embarrassed at what they were doing while looking for a better job. Never be embarrassed by working and being employee regardless of the job!
