As you know I do love a data centre🕋, but now and then I do like to plan for other big boxes and in this case TV & Film Studios 🎥 🍿 . The last few years have seen a huge surge in Studio consents, including the 1.5M sqft HOP studio campus I worked on in Central Beds. A big shift in viewing habits 📺 📱 alongside various attractive government incentives, the demand for more, bigger and better space was inevitable. But has the bubble burst? 🫧 We continue to work with a number of developers and production companies throughout the UK, securing new floor space but also advising on ways to better use existing space and make planning consents as flexible as possible. TV & Film production in the UK is still and will continue to be a highly attractive proposition for the industry; we just need to make sure that, alongside a thriving creative talent pool & workforce, we have the infrastructure in place to back it up 📽️ #tv #film #studios #datacentre #digital #economy #b8 #employment #boxes #industry #planning #development #infrastructure

How's it been going? We've been busy! Though we're only a few months old, we've supported numerous Producers, Production Companies, Studios and Networks in Budgeting for TV & Film. We've helped lights turn green, funding close and stimulated the production landscape by bringing new shows to the UK. It's still tough out there, but things are improving. Buyers are beginning to open their wallets again - but with much more focus on value and cost-efficiency. Right now, a properly and responsibly budgeted show may be the difference between getting a commission or not. Talk to us about what we know, and how we can help. https://lnkd.in/ed-n9vn7

Maybe Sundance carries some of the blame. Maybe it doesn't. But they're not the real solution. Streaming is. Streaming should be the place, particularly Netflix, Amazon and Roku, where every indie film can find their audience. Of course, the financial motivations to do so aren't there. But if NFLX just dedicated a tiny bit of its efforts to supporting indie film, it could make a truly big difference and really open up the world of filmmaking in a way that would better the industry for Hollywood, filmmakers, and most importantly, viewers. https://lnkd.in/ejCJbu9a

"Show Me The Money"...An important British Screen Forum Insight event last week with Cristina Nicolotti Squires on her new role as Ofcom's Group Director for Broadcasting and Media, and the launch of Ben Keen's seminal report on UK film financing with a panel session including Matt Mueller, Anwen Griffiths, John Glencross, Dimitra Tsingou and Dave Bishop. It's the clearest analysis of British Film Institute (BFI) data that contrasts the vital levels of levels of inward investment with the shockingly small and declining scale of our domestic industry. Only 10% of UK independent producers make more than one film, and investment in UK films was down 60% in 2023 vs its peak in 2016. It comes with recommendations that can sit alongside the recently boosted tax credit. But there's much work to do. You can download the report here: https://lnkd.in/es2Q65dd
