The 2024 Farnborough International Airshow is complete and one emerging theme is clear: There’s a massive global demand for new more sustainable commercial aircraft, and demand is expected to continue for the next 20 years. Industry giants Boeing and Airbus each project a global demand for more than 40,000+ new commercial aircraft over the next 20 years, which represents more than $8 trillion in revenue. Can legacy OEMs meet the demand? Let’s look at the numbers: In 2023 Boeing manufactured and delivered 528 commercial aircraft while Airbus delivered 735 aircraft over the same period. If we project the reported aircraft production capabilities over the next 20 years, it’s evident today’s legacy OEMs fall well short of meeting global demand. Boeing 528 annual deliveries (2023 numbers) x 20 years = 10,560 total Airbus 735 annual deliveries in (2023 numbers) x 20 years = 14,700 total It's clear more competition is needed and one of the reasons we believe the time is now for Natilus to provide the industry with new hyper efficient aircraft capable of carrying more while using dramatically less fuel. Comac Unveils Stretched, Shortened C919 Variants China’s Comac has unveiled stretched and shortened variants of its C919 narrowbody aircraft, which the OEM says are aimed at catering for the various operational requirements in and around China. Named the C919 Stretched Variant and the C919 Shortened/Plateau Variant, the two concepts were revealed at the Shanghai International Commercial Aviation & Aerospace Industry Exhibition. Sizing up and down its standard narrowbody to create a family of aircraft for different requirements would replicate Airbus’ A320 family and Boeing’s 737 MAX family variations. Why Are The Engines On The Airbus A340 So Small? During the conceptual design phase of what would become two of the popular widebody jets, Airbus discovered that North American carriers wanted twin-engine aircraft, primarily for their inter-regional operations. On the other hand, airlines in the Asia-Pacific region needed a four-engine aircraft for long-haul operations across the Pacific. #Airbus simultaneously developed the #A330 twinjet and the #A340 quadjet to cater to both markets. I see a parallel with the auto industry here, watch this space over the next twenty years… The first steps by CN to compete with Airbus and Boeing is to produce an aircraft to a specification, think Airbus A320 that will become the backbone of fleets flying within CN. If the manufacuring labour cost of aircraft production is similar to that of cars, coupled with massive, long-term government subsidies, they will, pardon the pun, be off to a flying start. #aviation #aircraft #boeing737 #airbus #chinamanufacturing
