For anyone in the Health and Biological Sciences who is interested in climate from a research perspective, or just making a difference, there is a useful link below. The Global Consortium on Climate and Health Education run seminars annually to raise awareness on Climate Change and it's effects on public health. This year, they have opened up a course on the European Perspective, allowing those in Europe to understand how the changing climate is impacting us, and how within the Health sector, we can influence things. Below is a video link for the 1st session, which can be accessed via YouTube. This will be updated on a weekly basis. The 1st session highlights: 1) What we are currently facing, and have experienced (with data published within The Lancet Climate Countdown). 2) What opportunities there are to improve things, by highlighting key areas of impact. For those in Latin America, the Caribbean, and SE Asia, you can access videos relating to these areas via the link within the The Global Consortium's channel. Ultimately as mentioned in the seminar, policymakers do have the final say. But nonetheless, there are things that we can do, and there is still time to improve things.

Health is a top reason climate change matters to all of us. Caribbean countries are especially vulnerable to climate change-related damage to livelihoods, health systems and infrastructure. We are increasingly susceptible to health impacts such as heat-related illness, non-communicable diseases, mosquito-borne diseases and mental ill-health. I'm proud that my company, Blue Sky Development Consulting, were lead consultants in developing the Public, Private, People’s and Planetary Agenda as part of the Research for Action on Climate Change and Health in the Caribbean project. The agenda is a resource for the movement to forge resilience against the impact of climate change on health. It synthesises Caribbean evidence on health impacts and exposures, adaptation and mitigation action, resources and engagement and was based on a consultative process involving hundreds of experts and advocates. Thanks to co-authors from EarthMedic/ EarthNurse, Yale University Center on Climate Change and Health, the University of the West Indies, Emory Rollins School of Public Health and the Pan American Health Organization for this great opportunity and collaboration. https://lnkd.in/dFrZ2x8Z

You can now register for the launch of the Lancet Countdown Report for Europe and learn about the state of climate change and health in Europe.

The high-level conference organized by #europeancommission “Research Perspectives on the Health Impacts of Climate Change” started and in all opening speeches #horizoneurope was mentioned as key initiative. These two days health and climate change researchers, funders and policymakers are working two days on the reflection of current challenges, priorities and needs for research and researchers. Additionally, the conference will support the launch of a new strategic research and innovation agenda (SRIA) identifying the priority topics for the years to come on climate change and health research. 19-20 February 2024. High-level conference for researchers, policymakers and relevant stakeholders in the field of climate change and human health.

I am excited to have been selected to be part of the The Academy of Medical Sciences and National Academy of Medicine Next Generation Researchers: Exploring Climate and Health project. 🌍 We know that climate change is the biggest global health threat of the 21st century. ⚕ We know that health systems (including health research) have a considerable impact on the environment and climate - contributing 5% of global greenhouse gas emissions. This project brings together emerging leaders in the UK and US to tackle urgent and complex issues at the intersection of climate change and health. The aim will be to propose policy actions that the health research sector could take to address the challenges of climate change.
