How quickly should we able to detect and respond to a disease outbreak? In a meeting we attended at Georgetown University this week, public health gurus Dr. Anthony Fauci (3rd from left in photo) and Dr. Tom Frieden (2nd from left) lifted up the global 7-1-7 strategy as a simple, fast, and scalable framework to evaluate every outbreak – moving preparedness from “planning and more planning” to “find a problem; fix a problem." BCHC members Dr. Raynard Washington and Dr. theresa cullen (standing at far left and far right in the photo) are leaders in this movement, demonstrating how locals can use the “7 days to detect – 1 day to notify – 7 days to respond” as a goal to hold themselves accountable in outbreak response as well as shine a light on areas that may need better investment, advocacy, policy change, and stakeholder engagement. We cannot prevent the next pandemic, but we can work collaboratively towards a globally identified goal to minimize the impact of our next emergent event.

Among these is #amyloidosis, a rare and life-threatening disease affecting various organs including the heart, kidneys, liver, and brain. Despite its severity, there's still no cure. 🔬 Together with the FairfaxWood Health & Innovation Technology Initiative we will transform the way our researchers and clinicians study and treat amyloidosis and other serious medical conditions that require a synergistic approach to improve health and quality of life. #MedicalResearch #HopeForAmyloidosis
