NBR - National Business Review’s Post

Whakatane Mill Limited was doomed to be shut when it was deemed uncompetitive in early 2021. Now, it's a thriving #export business that is in the process of upgrading. After the original Swiss owners decided to exit the business, an international #consortium acquired the business, and pivoted the focus of the company to solely folding box board and carrier board, used as food-safe #packaging. The $70 million #upgrade won't only expand the company's output by about 50,000 tonnes, it will also increase energy efficiency by a third and drastically reduce #gas and water consumption. The long-term goal is to become a carbon neutral manufacturer. A Brilliant story highlighting the importance of vision and imagination to resurrect a business that would otherwise have been abandoned causing a huge loss for the local community and our country as a whole. Congratulations and Thank You.
