The other three California cannabis testing labs that lost permits are: NCALC, doing business as THC Analytical: License revoked on Dec. 20, 2023. Salinas-headquartered ProForma Labs: License revoked on Feb. 16. Northridge-based California Cannabis Testing Labs: License canceled on July 24. Most of the revocations stemmed from THC-potency inflation and sloppy lab practices. But state regulators revoked ProForma’s permit after a reference lab discovered chlorfenapyr – a banned pesticide – in a product the lab had approved for retail sale. ProForma Labs did not report detecting any chlorfenapyr, according to the DCC’s revocation notice. Remediation lobbyists are at it again in my state! Colorado's new proposed rules: ○ Allowances for licensees to remediate or decontaminate products when initial required testing indicate the presence of a microbial; and ○ Restricting the State Licensing Authority from imposing additional labeling requirements when product passes retesting after remediation or decontamination. https://lnkd.in/gigxifQV This is directly in violation of the USP recommendations, which state "Treatment methods such as irradiation should not be used as a means to remediate cannabis contaminated above the allowed limits" USP also says that treated products MUST be labeled: https://lnkd.in/gcKxChGd The World Health Organization's Guidelines for Medicinal Plants also states that "Antimicrobial treatments of medicinal plant materials (raw or processed) by various methods, including irradiation, must be declared and the materials must be labelled as required.": https://lnkd.in/gzvuGucM Why aren't more of the leaders across cannabis standards organizations and quality experts in the industry speaking out on this? This is a major conflict with good practices established for cannabis and in parallel industries, but the people who have a seat at the table stay silent 🤔 It's up to us to write to Colorado lawmakers--you can do that here: https://lnkd.in/gsyzM2eD

Benefits of Explosive “Hemp” Growth 1. Red states are flowing Green 2. Explosive product proliferation may instigate a national legalization conversation 3. Growers now have options and greater pricing power. That said, all cannabis should be tested, regulated, distributed, and sold in a responsible fashion. That is to say safety, adherence to rules and regulations, and attempts to minimize youth consumption. Will hemp open the floodgates for national cannabis legalization or will it usher in a new level of enforcement? Please join the conversation and share your thoughts. #cannabis #cannabismarket #cannabiscultivation

😒 Very disappointed to see this announcement in my inbox. Folks with extensive quality backgrounds aligning themselves with a company who sells technology that is predominantly abused to recover microbially contaminated/adulterated product. Remediation of failed cannabis flower is allowed in many states and allows infected, spoiled, and/or mishandled cannabis flower to be sold to consumers. This remediation company has a record of lobbying states to allow for the recovery of adulterated product, and they also lobby to prevent users from being aware of these practices. Why a quality company would support this company and this poor practice, which is the antithesis of all product safety fundamentals, is beyond me. If anyone needs a reminder of why these remediation technologies are abused and bad for the industry, patients, and recreational users, please watch my Institute of Cannabis Research presentation here: https://lnkd.in/gbU-6jTN If you don't care about what I have to say, then listen to the United States Pharmacopoeia: “Treatment methods such as irradiation should not be used as a means to remediate cannabis contaminated above the allowed limits” 2020 Sarma PMID: 32281793 https://lnkd.in/g8w74iV4 And yes, I'm calling you out here on LinkedIn, because what you're doing is not only wrong, it's unsafe.
