We'd like you to meet Sarah. We met during our recent consultation. Her name has been changed, and a voice actor used, but only to protect privacy. The words spoken are her words. Sarah is a young care leaver having been in care since being a toddler. She couldn't wait to get into the world, but then that describes most young people. Sarah found work in retail but it's mostly seasonal and she feels that being able to gain other skills are beyond reach. Sarah doesn't have her own home and stays with friends. Despite trying to pay her way, she often finds it tough to make ends meet and has found herself with growing debt. Her doctor recently diagnosed her with depression. Care leavers do receive support from the local authority, though the extend varies depending on the authority. There are charities who can sometimes help too. Sarah has simply fallen through the cracks and though a caseworker is trying to help, they have a large casework load. Sarah doesn't want to add more onto the casework but can't help feeling alone, unseen and unheard by the system which used to be there for her. Ignis Lodge would be able to help people like Sarah. By providing stability and security for a minimum of 6 months and up to a year. During this time, people would have direct access to wellbeing support, therapies and help with employment. The stepping stones to a happy, healthy, and independent life. Sarah was one of the 72% in our sample who told us that an organisation like Ignis Lodge could help right now. We need your help to be able to turn this into reality and help people like Sarah. Please visit our website www.ignislodge.co.uk to find out more along with details of how to get in touch with us. #bethechange #youth #care #veterans #socialmobility #skills #education #support #westmidlands #birmingham #coventry #blackcountry #community #growth #support #sponsorship #socialresponsibility #ignitingpotential #brighterfuture

State of this: private, for-profit children’s homes complain that councils in Wales use unregistered homes for children in care. But one reason this happens is because private children’s home in Wales habitually accommodate children from England ahead of children from Wales. Why? Because English councils pay higher fees and care companies earn higher profits. This is how the market in children in care works. The Welsh Government is committed to ending for-profit children’s social care, and the CHA is doing everything it can to ensure that the Welsh Government does not succeed. https://lnkd.in/e6zGN7b4

When businesses and society maintain closed minds towards justice-impacted individuals, the consequences are profound and far-reaching. The reluctance to offer second chances or opportunities to those with criminal backgrounds perpetuates a cycle of disadvantage and exclusion. To address these consequences, it is crucial for businesses and society to adopt more inclusive practices and open-minded attitudes. Providing fair opportunities for employment, housing, and education, and actively working to dismantle stigmas associated with criminal records, can help justice-impacted individuals reintegrate successfully and contribute positively to their communities. On April 1, County Executive Angela Alsobrooks and workforce development nonprofit Employ Prince George’s announced the launch of reentry programs to support formerly incarcerated citizens. This initiative includes a reentry employment incentive program and grants for nonprofits aiding returning citizens. April has also been declared Second Chance Month in the county, highlighting the importance of reentry, particularly for young people and juveniles. Under the reentry incentive program, eligible businesses can receive up to $5,000 for each returning citizen employed in the previous year. This bonus aims to incentivize businesses to help reintegrate formerly incarcerated individuals into society. Funded by $500,000 from the county and $2 million from the state, this program is a significant step towards reducing crime and integrating returning citizens into the community. Reentry programs not only provide hope but also practical support, counseling, education, and access to job opportunities. Link - https://lnkd.in/d_827KU3

Non-profits are businesses! The advantage is their mission tends to be clearer than a for-profit business in my experience. 👉 4 Years. Nearly 700 into paid work. LESS THAN 2% have re-offended, in a country where… 😯 Without work, 73% will have re-offended within 1 year. 😲 The north-east has had the highest reoffending rate for 10 years. 🤯 The annual cost of re-offending to the taxpayer (i.e. YOU) is an eye watering £18 billion. In summary: what The Recruitment Junction does works. We help set these sad stats straight by reducing re-offending (as well as its cost to the taxpayer) through placing people with past convictions into work. Now, 600 people are OUT of the revolving door of prison and have stepped INTO a new future that they likely never thought was possible. 🫵 AND YOU can help keep a good thing going… 🚨 🚨 Until 12pm on 10th December, you can DOUBLE your donation to us through our Big Give Campaign (donate £5, we’ll get £10), where we’re seeking to do two things… 1. Replenish our candidate hardship fund 💷 👷♀️ This fund helps pay for essential items our men & women need for employment. In the past few weeks this has included: ✅ Birth certificate ✅ Passport ✅ Travel card to get to a training course ✅ Interview clothes to look the part and increase confidence ✅ CSCS online training, test and card to start work on a building site I.e. YOUR contribution could pay for the training course / right-to-work document that gets someone into a job that ultimately, helps them turn their life around. 2. Gift 100 Christmas Hampers to our candidates 🎁 🤶 Good ones too, incl: chocolates, biscuits, Christmas cake, as well as 3 small, individually wrapped gifts (one for a child). Many candidates struggle to afford the “extras” for Christmas and for some, our hamper will be their only gift this year (as we’ve heard in the past)... ⬇️ TO DONATE: Click on the link in this post. £25 will be auto-doubled to £50 to gift one hamper. But whether it’s £25 or £1, your generosity is helping someone with a past conviction make a new start, or making our candidates’ Christmas extra special. That’s a win-win.

This month saw the launch of another groundbreaking Test & Learn programme, Nurses in Outreach Teams. In this article, journalist Keith Cooper sits down with Victoria Rowell, who will be running a nursing team to help people sleeping rough with health problems in eight local authority areas from Oldham in Greater Manchester to Croydon, south London. The street health care project is managed by Change, Grow, Live, a national health and social health care charity. It will be subject to a randomised control trial, a scientific means of evaluating how well something works. For Victoria, it fulfils a promise made when she experienced 'hidden homelessness' as a teenager. Read more about her remarkable story and the new programme here: https://lnkd.in/eEgJ7HAh
