Last night, I presented my assessment task on Borderline Personality Disorder. I began by unpacking general beliefs about BPD, aiming to provide a clearer understanding of BPD through my project. I then dived into the experience of individuals with BPD, particularly focusing on their tendency towards black-and-white thinking and how this presents in many areas of their life (especially relationships). I discussed the prevalence of BPD, followed by an overview of the DSM-5 & ICD-11 criteria for diagnosis. I also examined the risk factors associated with BPD, including its relationship with CPTSD (which I found quite interesting). For assessment, I recommended the PAI as a valuable tool for evaluating BPD through comprehensive profiles. This assessment was integrated into diagnostic reports to determine if individuals met the DSM-5 criteria for BPD and to provide recommendations for further treatment, such as psychotherapy. Finally, I explored evidence-based therapies and pharmacotherapy options for individuals with BPD, emphasising the importance of continued psychotherapy alongside medication. I would love to hear other psychologists' thoughts on my assessment task! #borderlinepersonalitydisorder #bpd #dsm5 #psychologystudent

People may struggle to read between the lines and understand the deeper meaning of a situation due to differences in how their brains process information. This could be because of difficulty with abstract thinking, understanding non-verbal cues, or a lack of exposure to diverse social interactions. Some individuals may find it hard to pick up on subtle hints because they have a more literal way of thinking. Certain conditions like neurodevelopmental disorders can also make it challenging to grasp complex situations. It's essential to be patient and empathetic since everyone has their unique way of seeing the world.
