Our National Firearm Trace Program is a unique service that allows our law enforcement partners to submit illicit firearm trace requests.    The tracing program is used to determine the history of seized firearms.  We consolidate information to create a national picture of the firearm types in the Australian illicit firearm market (criminal use and source) ­– which in turn supports our partner agencies in investigations. #MissionCriticalIntelligence #ProtectingAustralia    If you know or suspect that someone has an illegal firearm, you can anonymously share that information with @crimestoppers.australia on 1800 333 000 or at crimestoppers.com.au  

Outstanding insight to the work that must be done (and is being done) after the arrest or after a firearm is found at a crime scene. We no longer can simply arrest someone for carrying a firearm illegally, or just connect a gun to a specific shooting. We must assess where the gun came from , who had it, how that gun got to be involved in a certain crime. Along with what other intelligence can we gather from the recovery of a firearm & shell casings at a specific scene. This article examines some of the same work being done here in Philadelphia, which is making a difference in violent crime cases.

Federal law allows people who are prohibited from possessing firearms to nonetheless carry them on behalf of the government (with one exception). I explained the law in a previous post, which you can read here: https://lnkd.in/eARUZJRP. In the post, I mentioned implications for agency policy. HSI Dallas and our law enforcement partners have successfully completed a major 8-week surge operation called Operation Overwatch, focusing on combating drug activity, gangs, and violent crime in Fort Worth and surrounding areas. During the operation, our Gangs and Violent Crimes Group, alongside several law enforcement agencies, seized a significant amount of deadly narcotics, firearms, and currency. Here are some of the results: - 93 total arrests - 12,866 fentanyl pills seized - 5.78 kilograms of methamphetamines seized - 2.52 kilograms of cocaine seized - 4.10 kilograms of marijuana seized - 435.59 grams of promethazine seized - 24 illegal firearms seized - $120,793 in U.S. currency seized We are committed to keeping our communities safe and will continue to work tirelessly to combat crime and drug activity.

MAYBE UK COPS WATCH TOO MANY AMERICAN CRIME MOVIES? QUOTE: ... "Mr Kaba died on 5 September 2022 from a single gunshot wound to the head after the car he was driving was hemmed in by a police vehicle and an officer opened fire in Streatham Hill. He was being followed by an unmarked police car with no lights or sirens and turned into a residential street where he was blocked by a marked police car. A firearms officer fired one shot through the windscreen and hit Mr Kaba". COMMENT: We know that American cops are trigger-happy and there are many instances of them shooting unarmed citizens ... But the British public don't expect our police officers to use a lethal weapon unless there are unique and last-resort circumstances requiring the use of a fire-arm. UK police officers have a variety of options available that can disable a suspect almost immediately - including pepper spray, rubber bullets and Taser/stun-gun. Police officers are only human - we appreciate that - but lethal weapons should not be routinely used when non-lethal weapons are available.
