At ECRI, we are dedicated to advancing effective, evidence-based healthcare globally for all individuals. As we celebrate Disability Pride Month, we honor the history, achievements, and experiences of the disability community. With over 1.3 billion globally living with disabilities, they constitute the largest minority group worldwide. Ensuring equitable care for those with physical and intellectual disabilities is one of our Top 10 Patient Safety Concerns this year. Health inequities arise from unjust conditions faced by people with disabilities, including stigma, discrimination, poverty, exclusion from education and employment, and barriers faced in the health system itself. This month marks the 34th anniversary of the American Disabilities Act, a landmark policy that prohibits discrimination. Since then, dedicated advocacy for people with disabilities has paved the way for systematic advancements in accessibility and inclusion. At ECRI, we strive to foster a culture of acceptance, inclusion, and belonging every day. What inequities do disabled people face? Share your thoughts! We encourage everyone in the disability community to respond to the Request for Information (RFI), from the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP), which seeks input to help steer the development of the Federal Evidence Agenda on Disability Equity. OSTP is asking the public for feedback to understand the full scope of inequities faced by disabled people and the gaps in our current knowledge. Ultimately, the agenda will support the government in making data-informed policy decisions to advance equity in all areas—including health, employment, education, and other areas—for people with disabilities. You may submit comments until July 15, 2024. Learn more and submit your comments: https://lnkd.in/gKEe2Age

Today, we stand in solidarity with the start of UK Disability History Month 2023, running from 16th November to 16th December. This year's theme, "Disability, Children, and Youth," urges us to reflect on the historical, present, and future experiences of disablement among our younger generations. From a history marked by neglect, harsh punishment, segregation, bullying, and ignorance, we are compelled to confront our prejudices and discriminatory practices. The treatment of disabled children and young people serve as a litmus test for our inclusivity and commitment to human rights as a community and society. Impairment is an intrinsic aspect of human existence, yet societal responses have varied across cultures and time. The key to positive change lies in how we perceive impairment and disablement. Let us collectively challenge societal norms, promote inclusivity, and foster an environment that nurtures the potential of every individual, regardless of ability. 🌟 Join SceneChange in supporting UK Disability History Month, and let's contribute to building a more compassionate and understanding society for all. #UKDHM2023 #InclusionMatters #SceneChangeSupports #Diversity #Inclusion #Equity #Disability #SceneChange

Blatant ableism and discrimination-during Disability Pride month, nonetheless. Disability and age are some of the only things that connect us all as humans and, goodness knows, we need more unity now. People of all ages and cognitive abilities use mobility aids. I, for one, have used walkers several times in my life due to illness and injury. People with disabilities have just as much ability and right to lead. Perhaps the world would be a kinder, more equitable, and just place to live if resilient, innovative, and compassionate disabled people were in leadership. I believe so. More importantly, for everyone reading, what did you think and feel when you saw this cover? Were you aware of or outraged by the ableism (ageism as well)? Check your biases. If you are a leader in business, recognize the opportunity here to have conversations and trainings at work about disability, which will undoubtedly improve your culture and increase psychological safety. Remember that 80% of disability is non-apparent. Disability is 100% effecting the lives of people you work with. Talk about it. Don’t avoid the conversation. Reach out to me or other disability educators to help. And, as for The Economist , I hope you will consider a public apology for spreading stigma and hate towards disabled people. #disability #DisabilityPride #ableism #Leadership #OneBillionStrong ID: the cover of The Economist magazine with an photo of a walker with the President of the US emblem on it and the heading “No Way to Run a Country”.

July is #DisabilityPrideMonth, B4U Services ask you to join us in celebrating, honoring and recognizing the history, achievements, experiences, and strengths of the disability community. When valuing #diversity you must be inclusive and remember that regardless of things such as race, religion, sexual orientation, or disability, people deserve to live full, self-determined lives. July 26th marks the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which was landmark legislation that broke down barriers and required stipulations on businesses and organizations to be more inclusive of persons who have disabilities. While the ADA is a critical legislative advancement for our disability community, it’s important to remember that it includes minimum accommodations we should provide; it doesn’t go far enough to be fully inclusive. In honor of this month, please consider the ways you and your organization can become more inclusive to increase the belonging for the disability community. #OrganizationalChange #DEI #Diversity
