"Operators and their investors seem at the moment to be much more relaxed about the moves towards re-regulation outside the capital. The major players, especially those involved in overseas markets, are well used to competing for business through competitive tendering. It is, after all, the default mechanism for bus service provision in many parts of the world. The operating risks are well understood, and any financial uncertainties are reduced by the fact that the tendering authority retains revenue risk. In many cases, the authority also retains ownership of key assets such as vehicles and depots. This minimises the need for the operators to fund capital investment, reduces the capital employed and therefore the size of the required profits." Interesting piece from Chris Cheek in Passenger Transport on the move towards franchising as the dominant delivery model for bus markets in England and Wales (and maybe even Scotland eventually). https://lnkd.in/ebShVAxU

In today's rapidly changing transportation landscape, it's exciting to see new partnerships emerging. 🚚🔗 Recently, five auto haulers joined forces to create a publicly traded trucking company. This move not only signals a shift in how these companies operate but also showcases the potential for collaboration in the transport sector. Reflecting on my own experiences, I've witnessed the impact of leveraging strengths within partnerships. When businesses combine resources and ideas, they often unlock new opportunities that wouldn't be possible in isolation. The key takeaway here? Collaboration is a powerful tool for growth and innovation. As a consumer, I find the behind-the-scenes innovation in container logistics quite amusing – it's like the logistics world is playing its own version of Tetris! The Hamilton logistics company's unique shipping service is a game-changer, allowing containers to dance directly on the Port lands without the detour drama. The Hamilton Container Terminal (HCT) is the superhero in this logistics saga, rescuing containers from the tedious Montreal-CN rail-Brampton-truck routine. Now, with containers arriving by rail closer to their destination, it's like they've upgraded to express shipping, avoiding 200 truck trips a day and saving the planet from 160 tons of carbon emissions daily – it's like containers on an eco-friendly diet! Hamilton's charm as a goods movement center is shining through, and HCT is the star player, not just saving the day but also reducing traffic chaos and giving the CN Brampton terminal a breather – it's like giving a congested highway a spa day. The three trains a week plan is like a scheduled dance, connecting Hamilton and Montreal, and I can't help but picture containers tangoing their way across the rail tracks. From consumer goods to recyclable steel scrap, it's like a variety show of containers showcasing their talents. HCT's CEO, Amandeep Kaloti, is like the maestro, orchestrating this intermodal symphony with a mission to connect regions. And with Doug MacDonald from CN adding his notes about building supply chain capacity, it's like they're composing a logistical masterpiece for the dynamic GTHA region. In a nutshell, these small innovations behind the scenes might go unnoticed by many, but they're like the unsung heroes of efficient product consumption, turning the logistics game into a comedy of reduced emissions, saved costs, and a smoother, less chaotic transportation network. Cheers to the logistical choreography! #logisticsinnovation #logistics

Yes. You can own fedex routes, you can subcontract for fedex ground in a very lucrative business model. But - there are 2 completely seperate business models housed under the #FedexGround umbrella Home Delivery (P&D ISPs) - where you own several delivery vans and deliver packages to the door. Linehaul - where you own semi trucks , and CDL Drivers take trailers full of packages from terminal to terminal , sometimes across the country. There’s absolutely nothing similar to these two businesses, knowing how they are different is key to choosing the right path. #FedexRoutes #FexedLinehaul
Embarking on a journey with FedEx is more than just a business – it's a top-tier opportunity that strikes the perfect balance between business freedom and a structured system for lucrative returns. The growing demand for FedEx Ground opportunities, driven by evolving mile distribution and expansive growth avenues, positions it as an excellent choice for aspiring contractors. When delving into the world of FedEx routes, one pivotal decision lies in choosing between Pickup & Delivery (P&D) and Linehaul operations. The latter, renowned for its higher profit margins, offers not just financial stability but a preferred avenue for robust returns. Investing in a FedEx Linehaul route business unlocks significant advantages. This article aims to provide valuable insights for those navigating the decision-making process between P&D and the financial stability offered by Linehaul operations. #FedEx #FedExGround #FedExGroundLinehaul #truckingindustry

Welcome news for people travelling between London and central Scotland: the Office of Rail and Road (ORR) has given the go-ahead for 'open access' rail services. What does this mean? Well, open access rail operators work independently of the franchise operators and compete with them. They do not receive government subsidies - all revenue is self-raised, and they pay Network Rail track access charges. Open access operators are proven to increase competition and help grow rail passenger numbers through lower fares, new stops and improved services. Good news for passengers, and good for the environment too, as they encourage people to shift their journeys from more polluting modes. Research suggests that open access operations even grow patronage on the existing franchise operators too. A win-win for passengers.

Vice President, Property & Casualty at USI | Advising Business Leaders on Capital-Efficient Insurance and risk management solutions for the Transportation and logistics Industry
The sale of Coyote Logistics by UPS marks a strategic move by CEO Carol Tomé to streamline the company's structure. While the sale falls short of the $1.8 billion UPS paid in 2015, it allows for a greater focus on the core business. With $3.2 billion in revenue in 2023, Coyote Logistics generated about $470 million in gross margin and roughly $86 million of adjusted earnings. RXO's acquisition positions them as the third-largest broker in the country, following C.H. Robinson Worldwide and Total Quality Logistics. #UPS #Logistics #BusinessAcquisition
