The Hal Bruno Comfort Zone Kids Camp is named after the late Chair of the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) Board of Directors. Bruno was a fierce advocate for the families of fallen firefighters – and the camp established in his name offers an invaluable experience for children who have lost a loved one in the line of duty. The Kids Camp is not just a typical summer camp but a blend of traditional camp activities with specialized programs to address the emotional needs of grieving children. The NFFF’s partnership with the nonprofit organization Comfort Zone Camp is instrumental in developing this unique and meaningful programming. Having grown up in a small town, many of the components of "community school" makes sense to me. We may not have called what we had "integrated support services", it was just school. #community #schools #family #safe #education "A full-service community school includes four elements: various integrated support services through nonprofits, businesses and higher-education institutions; active family and community engagement; expanded and enriched learning, which can include after-school, weekends and summers; and collaborative partnerships among parents, students, school administrators and community leaders" https://lnkd.in/gnwt5pQJ

Thank you very much for thinking of me and Bulldog Financial Planning this April during your Volunteer appreciation month. Today we want to thank Patrick Randall, CFP®, MBA from Bulldog Financial Planning. If you're unfamiliar with the Community Schools Model, which puts communities at the heart of education and schooling, or the work of Communities In Schools, the organization I work with which has been a beacon, a model and an active advocate of these ideals for decades, then start with this article. Now is the best time to educate ourselves about the benefits of this educational model so that we can advocate for policies and budgets that support this model of schooling during the current GA session and beyond! Reach out if you have questions! I love to share about the work we do! https://lnkd.in/eW8ukiJt
"A highly successful organization offering integrated student services is Communities In Schools. CIS is a national nonprofit that is one piece of the larger Community Schools puzzle. While many nonprofit providers offer valuable programming outside the traditional school day, significant and life changing support also occurs during the school day through organizations like CIS." Thank you Forbes for highlighting the work the work of CIS and sharing the perspectives of Communities In Schools of Richmond president and CEO Harold Fitrer and CIS Founder and CIS-VA vice chair Bill Milliken. New year, same mission! WE ARE #AllinforKids across Virginia! https://lnkd.in/ePtQjGbB

Senior Level Regulatory and Commercial Corporate Counsel | Executive Director of The Positivity Spectrum | Autism Advocate and Speaker
Why is it helpful for #autistic children to be among #neurotypical peers during the summer? This is a question I have been asked a lot since embarking on founding a nonprofit. The answer is that to achieve true #inclusion, #autisticchildren have to be included. And to be included, autistic children need time to develop the social skill set needed to be among peers. While some of this can be done at school during the year, camp represents a less formal structure where fun and friendship are stressed over learning and school work. It is a perfect place to practice, grow, and build confidence in social skills. That’s why #ThePositivitySpectrum has our #CampForKids program providing aides to support autistic children as they navigate the opportunity to attend camp.
