Growth in leadership comes in many forms. It could come via accepting a promotion you don’t feel qualified for. It can come in attending conferences or reading leadership material. It could come under the mentorship of a senior leader. Regardless of how it comes, our growth is our responsibility to embrace it, pursue it, and celebrate it. Growth will always cost us. Navigating new territories in leadership can feel daunting, even for the most seasoned leaders. At the Ontario Dairy Council Convention I recently attended, I shared with the fellow participants that how despite my expertise in business management, the dairy sector was uncharted territory. However, I leaned into what I knew best: #StrategicBusiness Principles. And the fundamentals remain the same, no matter where you go. To all senior leaders, when faced with unfamiliar challenges, draw strength from your core competencies and adapt them to the new context.  In the end, it’s just about going back to the basics. Remember, your fundamental skills are your most reliable tools.
