One of the things I learned as I began to study functional medicine, is that inflammation is a precursor to chronic disease. When I learned this, I began to make the connection that all my running, the hours I loved on the trails on my feet, though there are physical benefits of exercising in nature, the lengthy runs were a source of inflammation for me.
What do most runners fuel with? Sugar! Sugar is highly inflammatory.
And stress…. Regardless of how clean you eat, and how much you exercise, stress will lead to heart disease, diabetes, cancers, and more. And the long runs, added even more stress to my body!
This vicious cycle of what I thought was healthy came to a halt. I began to look at my health from a cellular level. I began to look at what foods I needed to nourish my cells, my mitochondria, those powerhouses of the cell - or as I like to call them - our energy plants!
I cannot believe as a nurse for so long, that I missed this. They did not teach you how bad stress was for your body. They did not emphasize needing 7-8 hours of sleep a night. When I broke down last year, I was sleeping maybe an hour at a time.
I am now sleeping up to 7 hours without waking. I am getting up earlier and able to focus and work. I still have some things I am working on, but I feel like I am no longer inflamed, I do things to ditch my stress on a daily basis.
If you want to know how, type “HOW” in the comments and I will send a link for a free consult.

2moI used to buy the National Geographic as a hard copy. Loved the articles about countries I would never visit, and bizarre creatures I'd never see in real life. I'm sure it's still wonderful... but I object to giving my money to Disney! It's a disproportionate monster absorbing all. Sorry, but it's not on.
