Now that billions are ploughed into genAI, which has no crasp of content - a small (in monetary terms!)- training free language AI with full semantic understanding is in an advanced stage of development. In comparison to genAI -a giant- because it understands what it reads ( MNLU = Machine Natural Language Understanding). It will fit on a chip ("small") and run on edge / on prem. Safe by design it complies to legal requirements like AIA, GDPR and ISO27001. A first linguistic test was run at the DFKI (German Research Institut for AI) To put into a picture: Remember the times when a computer filled a whole room- nowadays a smartphone is more efficient! (Now the smartphone is a giant compared to the early computers). When seeing the phantastic proverb of Martin Luther King Jr. this new MNLU came immediately to my mind. Another proverb of Carl Sagan (author of Cosmos): "The brain is a very big place in a very small space" 😊 IMHO not the great things, but the smart things (however small) count!
