Reflecting on my 16 years at TechTarget, one of the most rewarding aspects of my journey so far has been the incredible friendships I've made along the way. These relationships have been a key reason for my long tenure here. Today, I have the privilege of leading a team of sales professionals who are more than just colleagues—they are like family. Our team is a close-knit group who will drop anything to help one another out. This camaraderie not only makes our work more enjoyable but also significantly enhances our productivity and success. As the first week of January is coming to a close, I've been reflecting on the past year and setting some professional resolutions for 2024. I'm sharing a few with this community in hopes that it inspires someone else to do the same - celebrate your accomplishments, and embrace your upcoming opportunities! Reflections 🧠 Knowledge Sharing: I had my first in person speaking opportunity at CEMA-Corporate Event Marketing Association Summit on Supercharging Event ROI. So grateful for the chance to share my thoughts, and to collaborate with the brilliant Lena Stahlschmidt 💼 Job Changes: I started at Riskified just about one year ago after my first ever layoff. This was definitely a nerve-wracking moment in my career, and I'm so grateful to Storycraft Lab for giving me the opportunity to work with and learn from them between my full time roles Resolutions 📢 Speak More, Listen More: I'm definitely looking for more opportunities for knowledge sharing through speaking at events and webinars, and posting on Linkedin more. I'm also looking to allocate more time this year to listening and learning, there are so many important voices with valuable insights to share ⏰ Slow Down...But Speed Up: I know I'm not alone in this one...it's so easy to jump from event to event since our plates are beyond full, but some of the best learning comes from post event debriefs. I'm still working on the mindset shift from hurry up and check off the box of "post-event sales enablement and marketing debrief complete" to truly taking a moment and letting feedback sink in. Pushing the pressure of a busy event portfolio to the side for a few minutes in order to truly embrace these learnings is definitely a challenge. Anyone know how to slow down a clock?! TOP Takeaway Just for fun, here is arguably the most important thing I'm taking away from my 2023 learnings 🏆 Small Events at Big Conferences: Standing out at a conference with a booth doesn't usually work anymore, unless you're creating a unique experience at it (and have a large footprint). This is creating a shift for the investment strategy in many companies at conferences they may have attended repeatedly. Smaller side events with more intentional invitations have proven much more successful- bonus points if it's community building and not just sales oriented What are your reflections & resolutions?

Very insightful reflection on corporate culture indeed. Let me add my two bits on this regard: In the 2010s, a notable trend emerged within a leading FMCG company’s headquarters in Mumbai. The company frequently hired associate insights managers from a particular agency. This practice became so prevalent that the agency capitalized on the demand by advertising and offering secondment opportunities, effectively creating a new business model. However, it’s crucial to recognize the potential pitfalls of such a system. When a department or category head shows a preference for a specific model, it can lead to instability. If that leader is replaced, their favored model may be discarded, resulting in disruption and potential losses for the company. This scenario underscores the importance of adaptable and sustainable business strategies #corporatepolicies #corporatelife #hiringpolitics
If you are going to join a team, and you see a lot of leaders and employees from the same previous company like ex-ABC, it is a cartel that we are talking about. So, a couple of folks were hired from a particular organization, and they kept hiring from their previous organization until they became a majority. These hirings may or may not be based on meritocracy. And even then, the biases and favoritism continue because of the previous histories and relationships. I have worked with teams where people used to wear this badge of ex-ABC all the time and used it to defend their ability instead of doing actual solid work. I am not saying these teams are bad, but it is harder for a non-ex-ABC to succeed and shine in such teams. You can choose a better team where your work speaks more than your previous employment history. #teams #workculture
