A concise read, summarising some the key issues and research around military GHG emissions. Thanks to Benjamin Neimark and very pleased to have contributed on behalf of the Conflict and Environment Observatory
Global militaries are some of the largest carbon polluters on the planet, yet their climate impact goes largely unreported. A new interactive policy brief coordinated by Dr Benjamin Neimark, ‘Confronting Military Greenhouse Gas Emissions', includes research from SGR's Dr Stuart Parkinson, Nico Edwards, and many other leading experts on the subject. Leader in Holistic Climate Action | Sustainability Consultant | Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) | Environmental Impact | Sustainable Business Practices | B Corp Advocate
Monday is Memorial Day in the US - a day to honor those that have dedicated their lives to military service. It inspired me to see if there were any climate-focused veteran groups and I stumbled upon the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs' climate action plan. It is fairly long, but here is a quick summary: Goals: 🌎 Achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions from VA-owned and leased buildings by 2040. 💪 Improve climate resilience and adaptation efforts across VA facilities and operations. 💡 Enhance energy efficiency and sustainability practices to reduce environmental impact. Proposed Actions: 🏢 Implement energy conservation measures, renewable energy installations, and green building standards to reduce emissions. 🔧 Integrate climate resilience considerations into infrastructure planning and maintenance to mitigate risks. 🔁 Expand renewable energy procurement and invest in energy-efficient technologies to decrease reliance on fossil fuels. 📈 Enhance data collection and monitoring systems to track progress towards emission reduction and climate resilience goals. 🤝 Foster partnerships with external stakeholders and communities to collaborate on climate initiatives and share best practices. Veterans played a key role in the resistance to the Dakota Access Pipeline and thousands showed up in support of protecting the world's access to clean water.

A leader in sustainability, decarbonisation and implementing sustainable change with a passion for tackling the many impacts of climate change
Thanks to the Airport Operators Association for another great event where I had the opportunity to hear the latest developments in the sector and the great work our clients and others are doing. Special thanks to Matt Prescott and Jessica Briggs CEnv for your very inciteful observations on carbon accounting for scope 3 emissions. Conferences create a bubble of like-minded individuals celebrating progress, but it's essential to remember that the climate emergency is escalating. Recent events, like Joe Biden's performance in yesterday's debate, highlight the urgency of the situation. If Trump gets in, things don't look great. Let's not slow down in our efforts to enhance sustainability in the sector. We at Ricardo Aerospace, Maritime and Defence are certainly not. #AirportOperatorsAssociation #CarbonAccounting #ClimateChange #Sustainability #RicardoAerospace #Maritime #Defence #ClimateEmergency #scope3

#FRANCE: Minisitère des Armées "The French Ministry for the Armed Forces has developed a comprehensive “Climate & Defence” strategy to prepare the defence tool for the climate challenge. It is based on strengthening the Ministry’s organization in terms of knowledge and anticipation of strategic climate change issues and the implementation of an ambitious adaptation policy by all the armed forces, directorates and departments". "Implementation of the Climate & Defence strategy must be based on a level of strategic coordination and general policy direction in order to federate and engage all the Ministry’s stakeholders in a comprehensive approach structured around four main focus areas: • Developing knowledge and the ability to anticipate the strategic challenges associated with climate change; • Initiating a process to adapt the defence tool to predictable disruptions caused by climate change; • Continuing the Ministry for the Armed Forces’ contribution to collective efforts for mitigation and the energy transition; • Stepping up cooperation on the defence issues of climate change within the Ministry and at the interministerial and international levels". pdf AQUI: https://lnkd.in/d5dKGdVE
