As Mexico ramps up its fruit and vegetable production, exporting food to the U.S. and other countries, it shows potential for industry growth in crop protection, both agrochemicals and biologicals, as well as plant health. However, a major deterrent sets the country back from this growth. Black market activity ranges high in comparison to other countries and makes legitimate business difficult. The Transnational Alliance to Combat Illicit Trade (TRACIT)’s Tackling the Sale of Illicit Pesticides on E-Commerce Platforms report illustrates that Mexico isn’t the only country dealing with the misuse of highly regulated chemicals. India Initiates Anti-Dumping Investigation on Imports of Pretilachlor from China The Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Department of Commerce, and Directorate General of Trade Remedies have announced the initiation of an anti-dumping investigation on imports of “Pretilachlor in any of its form & its intermediate – 2,6-Diethyl-n-(2-propoxy ethyl) Aniline (also known as PEDA)” originating from China. The investigation follows an application filed by India Pesticides Limited, representing the domestic industry, citing alleged material injury and a threat thereof caused by dumped imports from China. Product Under Consideration The investigation focuses on Pretilachlor in any of its forms and its intermediate, 2,6-diethyl-n-(2-propoxy ethyl) aniline (PEDA). 21 Attorneys General sent a letter to Congress urging the legislature to address intoxicating hemp products in the next Farm Bill. The letter asks that lawmakers include language to define hemp more tightly, and to affirm states' authority to ban or regulate hemp-derived products containing delta-8 THC and and other intoxicants. “The Agricultural Improvement Act of 2018 seemed clear at the time in its intentions—reintroducing industrial hemp as an agricultural commodity, while maintaining existing federal prohibitions on cannabis products and their use,” they wrote. “Nevertheless, bad actors have exploited the 2018 Farm Bill’s definition of hemp, its protection of derivatives of that plant, and a wrongly perceived federal pre-emption against state-level regulation of these products.” Read the full letter and more: https://lnkd.in/gAzDZGdG
