The #semiconductor industry will generate close to a million job opportunities within the next four to five years. Despite this promising outlook, there will be a significant skill deficit of about 250,000 to 300,000 positions by 2027. Speaking about this to TimesTech Buzz, our Chief Strategy Officer Sumit Kumar said that collaborative efforts between companies and Sector Skill Councils can pave the way for impactful programs aimed at #skilldevelopment, upskilling and reskilling the industry’s workforce. Sumit also emphasized that to build a larger pool of skilled individuals, employers should explore multiple programs such as #degreeapprenticeships, training programs to upskill professionals in areas of chip design, and manufacturing and certification programs to validate their skills. APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University Invites Applications for MTech Programmes APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University has invited applications for its MTech programmes for the 2024-25 academic year. The deadline for applying online is August 20. Founded in 2014, the university is launching its departments this year, which include the School of Electrical Sciences and Technology, the School of Communication Sciences and Technology, the School of Building Sciences and Technology, and the School of Mechanical Sciences and Technology. MTech programmes are offered in Vehicle Technology, Embedded Systems Technology, Infrastructure Engineering and Management, and Mechanical and Materials Technology. These MTech courses are distinguished by a curriculum focused on industry-academia collaboration, helping students materialise startup ambitions, project-based learning, and internships in esteemed labs and companies. Each course, approved by AICTE, will admit 18 candidates, with admission based on GATE scores. Those with high GATE scores are eligible for GATE scholarships according to AICTE norms. If there are not enough applicants with sufficient GATE score, admission will be through an entrance test or interview conducted by the university. One seat in each course is reserved for professionals working in Central/State Private Limited Companies, Public Limited Companies, or MSMEs.
