𝗠𝗮𝘆 𝟭𝘀𝘁 and not only is legal press and LinkedIn full of the A&O Shearman story, but it is also full of posts congratulating those who have been promoted to partner, counsel and senior associate. But what if you had hoped that 2024 would be your year? Over the last few years you have put together a compelling business case, racked up an obscene number of chargeable hours, been heavily involved in BD and internal mentoring but still that promotion remains elusive. Maybe it really is not you and maybe instead it is the make up of your team or firm that is holding you back. If all those positive posts are making you question your own career and progression perhaps it is time to manage your career actively and look for an alternative route to success. My colleagues and I at Marsden spend a lot of our days talking to lawyers from trainee right through to partner and General Counsel about career options, the market and possible opportunities. We pride ourselves on our knowledge of the market as well as being realistic and pragmatic. Please contact me at sally.gardner@marsdengroup.com to discuss your options or speak to one of my London based colleagues: Alex Russell, Michelle Mills, Tim Andrews or Sonia Patel Based in Australia? Please contact Ben Smith, Daniel Hogan, Jonathan Walmsley or Jak Yasuda #legalrecruitment #careerprogression

WE NEED YOU! ‘Look up and Beyond’ seeks early career talent.. With the momentum for our project building and lots of work to be done, we are reaching out to friends, colleagues and allies who wish to help us reach our goals. We are looking to set up a “Early Stage Focus Group” to help us better reach and understand what early career talent needs to help it grow and remain in the Scottish legal industry, to make the profession truly representative of society, at all levels. These will be voluntary roles and as such the time commitment and responsibility will be kept to a minimum. We are looking for diverse insights, maximum enthusiasm and an inclusive ‘can do’ attitude - we promise, no time recording! We value the ‘often missing’ knowledge and skills that early talent in the legal industry can contribute and how it can help us ask the right question and find fitting solution for lasting change. You don’t have to be a solicitor, there is no PQE requirement and men are very much welcomed and needed. If this appeal to you and you wish to be a part of our project please reply to this post, reach out to me privately or email us at: hello@diversityplus.info Alternatively, reach out to anyone of our group members below. Closing date: Friday 8th March (not so coincidentally, that’s also #IWD) Please share with those who you think may be interested 🙏🏽 Angela Fyfe Naomi Pryde Jacqueline Moore Lesley Allan Ruth Croman Rachel Williams Catriona MacPhail Diversity+ #talent #earlytalent #womeninlaw #talentretention #diversityinlaw #diversityandinclusion

Third Year Law student and LLB Department Representative at University of Worcester | Aspiring Barrister
This afternoon I joined an online workshop held by Gray's Inn. This workshop was hosted by Anna Moradi and Antonieta Alvarez where they discussed the value of non-legal work experience. This event demonstrated how your CV and employability can be enhanced without legal work experience. It was highlighted during this workshop that every job, experience in part-time work and volunteering opportunity that a student undertakes is valuable. This workshop gave detailed examples of how to identify transferable skills within non-legal work experience and how to link them to the qualities required for a career in law. One important message that was mentioned during this online event was that "it takes a village to raise a Barrister". The career path of a Barrister requires strong advocacy and networking skills, therefore making it a journey that is almost impossible to take alone. This was shown within the workshop where the importance of getting a mentor for applications was stressed. Having a mentor to guide you within the application season is incredibly useful and can help students identify areas in their applications that may need altering or improving. Thank you to Gray's Inn for hosting this event and to Anna Moradi and Antonieta Alvarez for giving your time today. #lawstudent #aspiringbarrister #graysinn #employability
