Here we go …. 5 days of tips to prepare your houseplants for winter. Tip 1: As winter approaches, it's important to adjust your plant care routine—starting with watering. During colder months, many houseplants enter a dormant phase and require less water. Overwatering in winter can lead to root rot, as the cooler temperatures and reduced sunlight slow down their growth. To avoid this, check the soil before watering; if the top inch feels dry, it's time to water. Otherwise, hold off and let your plants rest. Reducing watering not only keeps your plants healthy but also helps them thrive when spring arrives. #greenhavenplantcare #Nottingham #Derbyshire #houseplants #watering

We've finally got some bright and hot days ☀️ Did you know that hot weather is not a good news for your drains? Summer drainage issues: - Traps can dry out causing nasty odours and unwanted smells in kitchens. Food waste can dry and begin to smell in kitchen gullies. - Sinks can also begin to smell during hotter summer months as a result of the overflow pipes drying out. - Tree roots can be a big summer drain issue. Hotter drier summers will cause roots to sink further into pipes seeking water and nutrition sources and blocking the flow of the drains. #drains #summer #smells

It's National Houseplant Week! To celebrate this, we thought we would share our 5 tips for you to get the best out of your plants this winter. Keep them cosy - Most house plants need a temperature of 12-18°C. They really aren’t fans of large temperature fluctuations, so position them away from cold draughts and open windows or doors. Reduce watering - For most house plants, you’ll only need to water them once every fortnight. Dormant plants need very little water – too much and they’ll either produce soft, weak growth or will rot as water gathers in the soil. Light lovers - Just like humans need exposure to sunlight, plants need to benefit from light. Try and place them in a sunny spot, i.e. a porch or sun room. Keep them clean - Wipe off dust regularly using a damp cloth, or stand the plant in a luke-warm shower for five minutes. Pesky pests - Aphids, scale insects, thrips and mealybugs love a cosy warm environment to breed in. Keep an eye on your plants for the wee blighters.

Summer is coming... and your new plants NEED HELP! Help from the nasty weeds that steal their nutrients and food. Nasty heat waves and droughts, that strip away all the moisture from the ground (and the roots of your new plants). The Terrafibre Weed suppression mats (and rolls) help kill weeds (no weeding this summer), and keep the moisture under the ground so the plant roots have ample water to keep them healthy. The mats are inexpensive, and last for years! Try them out this summer => https://lnkd.in/gEfvczCM

Spring has officially sprung and the sun is shining that little bit longer already. 🐜 To keep ants outside as the weather gets warmer, you can try these tips: 1. Seal entry points: Check for any cracks or gaps in windows, doors, and walls and seal them to prevent ants from entering your home. 2. Keep a clean kitchen: Wipe down countertops, sweep floors, and promptly clean up spills to remove any food sources that may attract ants. 3. Store food properly: Keep food in airtight containers and avoid leaving food out on surfaces or in open containers. 4. Remove standing water: Make sure there are no sources of standing water both inside and outside your home, as ants are attracted to moisture. 5. Use natural deterrents: Consider using natural ant repellents such as cinnamon, citrus peels, or vinegar to deter ants from entering your home. 6. Maintain your garden: Keep trees and plants trimmed away from your home to prevent ants from using them as a bridge to enter your house. By implementing these tips, you can help keep ants outside as the weather warms up. If that doesn't work, try our Insecto Pro Formula Ant Bait Station. It uses a professional quality active ingredient, Acetamiprid, used by today’s pest controllers. Ants are lured to the attractive bait which is consumed and taken back to the nest to feed the other workers and the queen. Bait is proven to be the most effective way of targeting the queen ant destroying the nest and entire colony. Check it out here: https://lnkd.in/ehvKUAGu #AntNest #AntPrevention #AntBait

Coconuts don’t grow in Europe for a reason... Some plants just can’t handle frost… 🥶 Here's a quick guide on giving frost tender plants the TLC they need: 🌿 𝐇𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐥𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐞: Plants in pots are more vulnerable, especially when the frosty temps hit. Potted plants have limited soil volume, offering less insulation for roots compared to the stabilizing effect of the open ground. Without this natural buffer, young potted plants become more vulnerable to temperature swings. And (sub)tropical plants like the coffee tree are the prima donnas of the plant world, so handle with care! ⚠️ 𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐲 𝐀𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐭: During these extra chilly days, where the daytime temperatures refuse to rise above freezing, even your large potted plant might need a winter retreat. Consider bringing it indoors to the garage or bedroom for a cozy escape. 🥰 Do you have another care tip to keep your green buddies thriving in the frosty season? Succulents are coveted members of any plant parent's collection. They prefer warm, sunny, dry climates, making them a great option for beginners and those with lots of natural light in their homes. ☀️ Here are our top five tips for getting you started: 1. Overwatering is the number one killer for succulents. Water when the soil is completely dry. 2. Place in direct sunlight and rotate periodically to prevent uneven growth and stretching. 3. Choose a low, well-draining container and pot using succulent or cactus mix. You can also add coarse sand or perlite to enhance the soil's drainage. 4.
