Mortgage Industry: Again, I ask the leaders of our industry to stop blaming the people that lost their job to an unrelenting market, as their unemployment is NOT their fault. My point: When you let these folks go, you and your company told them and the market that you were laying them off due to a lack of business. So, I'm reminding hiring managers to think about that… Many of these mortgage industry experts and career professionals were let go as result of business coming to the most abrupt halt in the history of our industry. Fact: These folks lost their job due to a lack of business, NOT a lack of performance. Hiring Managers: Before you poach that gainfully employed Processor, Underwriter or Closer/Funder, etc., please consider hiring one of the thousands of industry experts that are still on the sidelines desperate to be rehired.

He told me that his company posted a role for an Underwriter and received 613 applications within an HOUR!!! 😳 I'd love to help you guys, but here is my recommendation: Reach out to everyone in your network! Don't just send an email or a text. Call them. Get them on the phone. Find out if they're hiring. Or if they know of anyone who may be hiring. Get the names and phone numbers of those people. Ask them to make a personal introduction. Like now. While you're on the phone. Hint #1: Top Producers are still good producers, even in this market. Hint #2: Builder mortgage companies, or mortgage companies that have builder preferred relationships may be another place to look.
