This is an important element to guide your execs on and also goes to the strength of the media relationships you've built.
WRONG: "This is off the record, but man, my competitor sure is an asshole!" RIGHT: "I'd like to go off the record so I can candidly explain a few things. Does that work for you? We'll go back on the record as soon as possible."

PR minus fluff | Founder - StrategyVerse Consulting | Helping startups gain organic publicity faster
One topic that plagues the entire PR industry but people don't talk about it as much. 👇 'Is the PR partner alone responsible for monthly deliverables?' Before you answer, let me set the conditions. - The client won't give adequate information to cull out stories - The client won't be available for interviews when the journalist wants - The client won't answer all questions the journalist asks - The client would only count the stories in Tier 1 media as delivery - The client may only consider Page 1s as delivery The floor is open for views. Share yours in the comments section. #PublicRelations #ClientRelations #StrategyVerse

Want to hire the best in the business? Then you need to perfect your storytelling. The most talented job-seekers are looking for more than just a paycheck. They're looking for a story that inspires them. A story that shows how their work makes a difference in the world. That's why, as an employer, you need to be a storyteller. Tell the story of how your company started. Tell the story of what makes your company unique. Tell the story of how your employees make a difference. When you do this, you're not just selling a job. You're selling a vision of what's possible. And that's something that top-tier candidates can't resist.

About two hours ago I read a post on here about how an 'unrealistic' client asked a corporate video producer to shoot a 30-minute CEO interview in just two hours. It bleated on about location scouts and 'crew' and story arcs. I read it on my phone while the kettle boiled. Making my coffee, I thought of lots of hilarious quips I could work into my contribution. I would have said how anybody who has experience of television news would lap up a job like that. I was going to do a five (maybe six) point list of how I would approach the job: 1) ask the client's marketer what the key messages are; 2) shoot a few minutes of b-roll while the marketer briefs the CEO; 3) find a corner of the office by the window with a pot plant nearby; 4) set up the camera, check the mic and ask everybody to be quiet; 5) get the marketer to prompt the CEO; 6) press 'record'. Two hours later, with my laptop on my knee, I still can't find the original bloody post and my coffee's gone cold. I could have shot a corporate interview in that time and earned myself £500.

While I am truly honored and privileged to know many highly experienced, talented, and incredibly creative PR professionals, I would like to offer a few pieces of advice to some others: 1) After your team shares a press release, please ask someone from your team to verify its publication status instead of relying on the journalist to provide a link or PDF. 2) If you continue to send press releases month after month without checking if they’ve been published—or even trying to understand why they haven't—how does that benefit anyone involved? 3) Please ensure clear communication with your client before inviting a senior journalist to a FAM or press event. It's understandable for cancellations to happen occasionally, but it should not be a recurring issue. 4) Strive to add a personal touch to your communication instead of keeping it entirely virtual and mechanical. These are my personal opinions and may differ from those of others.
