Can we GET more out of our transmission system? There are new technologies that proponents and some regulators agree could get more out of the existing transmission system right now and potentially reduce the need for new wires. "They’re called “grid-enhancing technologies,” or GETs in industry shorthand, and in many cases they’ve been embraced elsewhere but have been slower to take root in the United States." #electricgrid #transmissionlines #gridmodernization

I haven’t done a lot of digging on this opportunity to upgrade our transmission lines vs the need to build out entirely new ones, but seems to make a lot of sense. Would be interested in any comments from those with experience in this area as the lack of grid capacity is often cited as a big limitation on expanding our generation capacity and if the assertions in this article are accurate it seems there is a much more manageable solution to that issue.

Electricity plays an essential role in everyday life. If the power goes out, even briefly, our lives can be disrupted. The system that delivers your electricity is often described as the most complex machine in the world, and it’s known as the electric grid. Very true. Power Electronics, a field of Electrical Engineering, is a core requirement for achieving sustainable energy model.
Power Electronics enables a reliable and flexible net-zero energy system. We have consistently expanded our capacity to meet the demands, using power electronics in power quality solutions and high-voltage direct current (HVDC). We are a key contributor to this undertaking, which has enabled more than 150 gigawatts (GW) of HVDC links worldwide and integrated them into the power system. Networked Microgrids are an ingenious concept that is transforming how we generate and use electricity. The networked microgrids are interconnected systems of smaller microgrids connected to the larger power grid, allowing for a wider array of distributed generation and storage options. By sharing electricity with other connected microgrids, these systems can become more reliable and efficient while providing greater energy independence and flexibility. #MicroGrid #SolarEnergy #EnergyResiliency

An electric grid is a network of synchronized power providers and consumers that are connected by transmission and distribution lines and operated by one or more control centers. When most people talk about the power "grid," they're referring to the transmission system for electricity. #grid #electric #power #network
