LISTED BUILDING CONSENT APPLICATION! York Georgian Society have considered proposals for the former Little Betty’s at 46, 48 and 50 Stonegate. The building has 15th and 16th century origins, 18th and 19th century alterations, and is Grade-II* listed. The proposals seek to convert the vacant cafe into a high-end licenced bar, remove modern decoration, reconfigure back of house spaces and install service runs for beer python pipes. ✅We support the principle of reuse of the vacant upper floors and welcome the proposals to reveal historic features such as flagstone floors and timber-framed walls. ❌However, we have concerns with the level of information provided, as this is a well-researched building of medieval origin. More research is needed to fully understand the impact of some of the proposals on this important historic fabric. Removal of masonry infill panels and stone hearths are some of the proposals we have questioned. Want to learn more or have your say? The deadline for comments is 23 July. Find the application (24/01018/LBC) here: https://lnkd.in/ehitF-Eb *********************** The York Georgian Society are a local amenity group that exists to preserve, enhance appreciation of, and share learning about, all things Georgian in York. Ever wonder what a trefoil arch is? How about a guilloche? Coffer? Sidelight? Most #historic buildings are owned by private citizens who have little or no background in building #preservation or its allied fields. These owners–as dedicated as they are to preserving or refurbishing their property–often feel at a disadvantage when communicating with professionals well-versed in the complex jargon of this multidisciplinary field. There is help though! Ward Bucher, Principal #architect with Encore #Sustainable Architects, wrote a guide just for you. The Dictionary of Building Preservation provides easy access to this terminology and helps the nonspecialist to understand and communicate with building and design professionals, preservation groups, government agencies, attorneys, and others concerned with building preservation. https://lnkd.in/exBPCgXE
