🌍✈️ Decarbonizing Airports: Insights from Industry Leaders** ✈️🌍 Today, we attended an insightful panel discussion hosted by Sifted in partnership with Groupe ADP, focusing on how to decarbonise airports, which contribute nearly 5% of global carbon emissions. Here are some key takeaways: 1. Urgency and Commitment: - Airports must decarbonize to maintain their license to operate and grow. There's no single solution; a combination of efforts is required. - Reducing CO2 emissions involves better utilization of current infrastructure, changing the energy mix, and avoiding new constructions. 2. Role of Startups: - Startups are crucial for driving innovation in an industry that traditionally evolves slowly. They bring fresh perspectives and dynamic approaches to sustainability challenges. - Collaboration between large corporations and startups can accelerate the development and implementation of green technologies. 3. Innovative Solutions: - #Hydrogen and Electric Aircraft: Companies like Beyond Aero are developing hydrogen-electric business aircraft, aiming for market entry by 2030. - Smart Infrastructure: Aerovolt is pioneering electric aircraft charging infrastructure across the UK, facilitating the shift to greener aviation. - Off-Airport Baggage Handling: Alltheway offers off-airport baggage solutions, reducing congestion and emissions by enabling passengers to use public transport more efficiently. 4. Infrastructure Challenges: - Airports need to adapt to new energy sources like electricity and hydrogen, ensuring they are integrated seamlessly into existing operations. - Infrastructure development is crucial for supporting the new generation of green aircraft. 5. Regulatory and Mindset Shifts: - Regulatory support is essential to fund and facilitate decarbonization initiatives. - Changing consumer mindset is critical. Offering sustainable travel options and educating passengers on the environmental impact of their choices can drive behavioral change. 6. Collaboration is Key: - Effective decarbonization requires collaboration across the industry. Airports, airlines, startups, and energy providers must work together to create a sustainable future. The journey towards greener airports is complex but achievable with innovative solutions and collaborative efforts. #Sustainability #Decarbonization #Aviation #GreenAirports #Innovation #Startups #SiftedTalks #GroupeADP

Last week we joined our partners, RMI and Bezos Earth Fund, on an educational tour of four industrial sites around Los Angeles, diving deep into the innovations shaping the future of sustainable transportation and energy. 🚢🌍 Our trip began with a boat tour of the Port of Los Angeles, a titan in the maritime industry and a pioneer in green initiatives. We witnessed first-hand the transformative efforts in green shipping corridors, zero-emissions terminal operations, and drayage trucking. And yes, we even spotted some playful seals amidst the industrial might! 🔌 The journey continued to WattEV, Inc.'s charging depot in Long Beach, an impressive facility equipped with 360kW fast chargers capable of energising up to 26 heavy-duty trucks simultaneously, pointing towards a cleaner, more sustainable logistics future. 🚛💨 Hyzon Motors' visit further inspired us with their commitment to fuel cell electric vehicle technology and hydrogen fuel cell innovation, painting a vivid picture of the potential for zero-emissions transportation. 🛢️➡️✈️ The tour concluded at World Energy, LLC (see image below), where we were privileged to go behind the scenes of their transition from a petroleum refinery to a producer of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) for Los Angeles International Airport. The highlight? Experiencing a live demonstration of SAF's burn properties compared to conventional aviation fuel, a stark reminder of the role sustainable fuels play in our journey towards net-zero aviation. This tour not only showcased the groundbreaking work being done but also reinforced our commitment to environmental stewardship and innovation. Let's continue to champion and support these pivotal transitions towards a more sustainable and greener future. #Sustainability #Innovation #GreenTransportation #NetZeroAviation #PartnershipForTheFuture 🔗 Dive into an online SAF demonstration here: https://lnkd.in/gFcpQJwN
