Before widespread EV adoption can happen, fleets must solve two main challenges: range and charging. Most electric vehicles can drive about 200–300 miles on a single charge, which may not be sufficient for the distance they need to cover on a daily basis. And then when they’re not being driven, the vehicles need a place to park and charge overnight. #fleetmanagement #electricvehicles https://lnkd.in/gZhx7xSQ

“We talk about charging, but you have to think how expensive it is for an EV driver to move their car because charging is done. You don’t want people moving vehicles, you want technology to move the charging for you.” Jeffrey Kinsey, EverCharge’s VP of Engineering, shares his insights on why the focus of scaling EVs in the U.S. should be to maximize the efficiency of technology, and ultimately keep costs of electrification down, in this new report by Troutman Pepper. Have you heard of wireless charging #roads? Before you scoff, consider that for properly equipped buses these can enable: 1. Less idle time spent charging 2. Smaller EV batteries, which result in: 3. Lower vehicle cost (& battery replacement $) 4. Lower vehicle weight, which also results in: 5. Shorter stopping distances (safer for pedestrians) 6. Less tire wear (fewer particulates) All of that on top of the fact that EV buses operate quietly and have zero tailpipe emissions in the communities and corridors they serve. While this type of #electrifiedinfrastructure will not make sense for all roads or all electric vehicles, city buses and shuttles with fixed routes are a compelling case to test. Personally, I’m excited to see this happening right here in #Detroit. Electreon #EV #emobility
