Executive Director of Safety at National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA), Keynote Speaker, Board of Trustee Member for the Construction Industry Alliance for Suicide Prevention.
ASPL Group is calling for better protections and true prevention rather than what it calls a “reactive response” to the government's recently announced a $925.2 million investment to establish the Leaving Violence Program.
Sophie McCashin, lead consultant ASPL Group and 15 years of industry experience in DFSV response, said “Prevention strategies must include education, awareness campaigns, and initiatives aimed at challenging harmful attitudes and behaviours. By addressing the root causes of gender-based violence and designing systems so that there is increased accountability for men and individuals who choose to use violence, we can create a society where abuse is not tolerated or accepted."

🚨 NEW: Landmark Advisory on Firearm Violence 🚨
U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy at U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has issued a historic Advisory declaring firearm violence in America as a public health crisis. This critical move acknowledges the devastating impact of gun violence on our communities. bit.ly/3VH9L84
Addressing firearm violence is crucial to reducing the epidemic of intimate partner violence. By recognizing this critical link, we can work together to create a safer, more equitable society for all.
As one of the largest providers of safety and support services for survivors of intimate partner violence, YWCA knows firsthand the dangers that firearms pose for women, children, and families. As YWCA USA CEO Margaret Mitchell said, "We are grateful for the Surgeon General’s attention to this critical issue."
Let’s amplify this crucial conversation and demand action to address the root causes of violence! Together, we can make a difference and pave the way for #SafetyForAll. Learn more about this significant step: bit.ly/3zrOnw3
Kudos to our Chair, Rinad Beidas, PhD, on her work in "Long-term consequences of youth exposure to firearm injury," which was cited in an article about firearm violence in Northwestern Now. https://lnkd.in/guKAep3z
Breaking the Cycle: Empowering Change
"GHC experts in forensics and reporting are collaborating with homeless offenders to help them build better lifestyles and secure employment opportunities. Together, we’re driving lasting transformation."
Step forward to prevent, report, and advocate. Together, we can protect our peers and pave the way for a future free of sexual violence.
April is Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month (SAAPM). This year's Army campaign, “Change Through Unity: Empower. Protect. Prevent.,” underscores the importance of collective action to eliminate sexual assault and harassment. We each have the power to foster a culture of respect and ensure a safe environment for all.
As April ends, let's remain committed to empowering and protecting one another. Learn more about how you can contribute to a respectful culture: [https://lnkd.in/ers62EZ7]

Please read the National Policing Statement about the incidence of violence against women and girls. It’s awful.
I’m proud that One25 plays a powerful role in seeking justice for women Bristol. The article linked to the post below highlights the need for a whole-system approach:
Violence against women and girls is at such a scale that it cannot be addressed through law enforcement alone. 1 in 20 people are estimated to be perpetrators of VAWG per year, with the actual number thought to be significantly higher.
Evidence shows many of these perpetrators will have touch points with a number of agencies outside of policing through their life, presenting opportunities for intervention.
This includes health, education, local authority, voluntary sector and industry all working in tandem with the criminal justice system, sharing data and responsibilities to effect change across the board.
We welcome the National Policing Statement which says violence against women and girls is a national threat.
We are part of the Women's Independent Advisory Group which works with Avon & Somerset Police to critically address policing issues relating to women. The last meeting was attended by Chief Constable, Sarah Crew.
We feel we have a strong opportunity locally, under her leadership, to address violence against women and girls. Sarah is supportive of our work, understands how police practice needs to change, and has signed up to the BNSSG trauma-informed pledge.
Full statement linked in comments.
Similar happened in Humberside & Manchester after both forces recycled the "Safer streets campaigns" designed for ASBO's into "new VAWG initiatives".
When those trained and paid to protect and serve create tokenistic policies, they end up paying those techniques lip service.
If policy makers are out of touch with what's actually needed, these are the results.
More perpetrators able to manipulate the system. More victims at risk and facing life altering, long term impacts of trauma and abuse.
We offer consultation across the abuse sector. Don't leave it until you're the next "lessons will be learned" news story. Don't leave it until there's yet another dead body and devastated family.

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
Sexual assault is not a women's problem, it is everyone's problem.
In military culture specifically, 1 in 4 women Veterans and 1 in 100 Veteran men report experiencing MST. This is a very high percentage for women, BUT based on actual numbers, 40% of Veterans who disclose MST to the VA are men.
EVERY survivor has a right to be believed and to receive appropriate care and support.
Everyone else has a responsibility to get very clear on what constitutes sexual violence, and how not to make it worse for people who have experienced it.
What's New: In a huge step forward, sexual assault is now tried outside of military chain of command. An office of Special Trial Counsel for each of the respective branches will now handle domestic violence, stalking, and most cases of sexual assault and other sexual misconduct.

🤝 Collaboration is critical in the anti-#HumanTrafficking field, and to tackle this heinous crime, we need 𝘢𝘭𝘭 hands on deck, especially those who have lived experience and understand the issue best: #survivors. For too long, policies and programs have been developed about survivors rather than with them. This approach misses crucial insights and ultimately limits our effectiveness. Survivors’ expertise is irreplaceable and vital to crafting impactful solutions.
📸 In the video below, hear directly from two incredible survivor leaders: #JeanneCelestineLakin, the Chair of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) International Survivors of Trafficking Advisory Council (#ISTAC), and Jane Lasonder, Vice Chair of ISTAC. They share their insights from the recent #WHDC24 Warsaw Human Dimension Conference with Kari Johnstone, where they shared their expertise and leadership in a powerful reminder of why survivor voices must be central to the conversation. 🗣️
