"...over the past 15 years, there has been almost no revolution and only a limited amount of evolution in military flight training." - Andy Fawkes, on Military Flight Training Conference 2024 #MFT2024 A refreshingly honest and direct debrief of MFTC, and a point that struck me in Fawkes' debrief was that "recruiting suitable candidates for training is not a problem for most nations; however, retaining them beyond the point where they have become supervisory and instructional assets on the front line and in the training system is." This is a major insight - filling the basic, elementary, and ab-inito training ranks is not the problem, in that recruiting targets are able to met. The bigger problem is generating effective combat capability, as quickly as possible. Trainees are not progressing through to 'D-category' frontline pilots and QFIs at the required rate - which is a function of training system effectiveness. The default solution for many air forces has been to "reduce course lengths and rationalise platforms and basing," but this can have serious unintended consequences in safety, throughput, and quality of training (meeting the required standard). This is where Ocean Software excels - FlightPRO, supported by our subject matter experts, provides the insights that enable informed decisions that in turn optimise training and operations. Other takeaways of note include: -The United States Air Force's Pilot Training Next initiative has been "parked" due to an unsustainable instructor/student ratio, although some elements remain. -The French Armée de l’air et de l’espace has had positive results with using the Pilatus Aircraft Ltd PC-21 for basic, advanced, and lead-in fighter training since retiring the Alpha Jet in 2018. -In finding the right balance between live and synthetic training, "true Live-Virtual-Constructive is the way ahead" in the sense that effective synthetic training requires the appropriate mix of real-world applications (live), in fielded simulators or trainers (virtual), and computer-generated forces to augment and force multiply scenarios (constructive) (I.e. Red 6). Halldale Group: https://lnkd.in/g7fuzHd9 Defence iQ #pilottraining #airpower #airforce #aerospace #aviation

FLIGHT ACADEMY: Cadets Cade Johnson, James McKnight, and Zoey Smith, Junior Air Force Junior ROTC cadets at Daphne High School, have received a scholarship to attend an accredited aviation university participating in a private pilot license training program in the summer of 2025. Cadets John Jones, Anna Herring, and Maribel Pocase were selected as alternates. Jones and Herring are students at Daphne High School and Pocase is a Junior at Spanish Fort High School. Cadets Johnson, McKnight, and Smith are three of 194 Air Force Junior ROTC cadets worldwide who received the scholarship from Headquarters Air Force Junior ROTC, Maxwell Air Force Base, Montgomery, AL. Cadets Jones, Herring, and Pocase are three of 136 alternates for the scholarship. 1,203 cadets applied for one of the 226 scholarships. More than 85,000 high school students are enrolled in Air Force Junior ROTC at more than 830 high schools in the U.S. and overseas. The scholarship covers transportation, room and board, academics, and flight hours required to earn a private pilot license potentially. The scholarship is valued at approximately $27,000. The Flight Academy Scholarship Program is an Air Force-level initiative collaborating with the commercial aviation industry to address the national civilian and military pilot shortage. The Flight Academy allows aspiring young aviators to get their Private Pilot’s Certification at no cost during an eight-week summer course at partner universities. This incurs no military commitment while providing a college transcript. Those who participate in the program do not incur a military commitment to the Air Force or other branches of service, nor does completing the program guarantee acceptance into one of the military’s commissioning programs. From Left to Right: Cade Johnson, James McKnight, Zoey Smith, Anna Herring, John Jones and Maribel Pocase. #baldwinproud The mission of Air Force Junior ROTC is to develop citizens of character.

🌟 Embrace the Learning Journey 🌟 This photo popped up today, from 13 years ago! My first thought was how young we look, followed very quickly by the reflection of just how far we've come John Baileff MBE since our days as Officer cadets. The 12 months we spent training at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, were some of the toughest months I've ever faced. At the time, we would ask 'what is the point in this training'. I specifically remember this thought whilst digging full depth trenche and 72 hours without sleep - seemed a bit pointless, given the advances in technology (and the existence of JCBs). But it was never about the trenches, it was about resilience and trust. In my 12 years of military service I relied on the training I received at RMAS several times, sometimes subconsciously, which is just one of the reasons I'm passionate about my job. At Osborne Clarke, we believe in the power of investing in our people, and trusting in our training to not only enhance skills but also to empower people to excel in the face of new challenges. 🚀 Trust the Training It's natural to question the immediate relevance of certain training sessions. However, it's crucial to trust the process. The true value of our learning often shines brightest when we find ourselves in uncharted territory, armed with the knowledge and skills we didn't even realise we'd need. 🌐 Trusting the Process Learning is a journey, not a destination. It's about embracing each step, understanding that every module, every workshop, and every piece of feedback is a building block towards a more proficient, confident, and innovative self. The process is as important as the outcome. 💡 You Don't Know What You Don't Know We've all experienced that 'aha' moment when a piece of training suddenly clicks into place in a real-world scenario. It's a powerful reminder that what we learn today may be the solution to tomorrow's problem. The future belongs to the learners, for they will inherit a world of possibilities. #LearningAndDevelopment #PersonalDevelopment #ContinuousLearning #InvestInYourself
