Passed by Congress on June 4, 1919, and ratified on August 18, 1920, the 𝟏𝟗𝐭𝐡 𝐀𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐀𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐰𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐯𝐨𝐭𝐞. This amendment marked a significant milestone in the fight for women's suffrage, but achieving it required a lengthy and difficult struggle. The victory was the result of decades of agitation, protest, and perseverance. Beginning in the mid-19th century, several generations of women's suffrage supporters engaged in a relentless campaign that included lectures, writings, marches, lobbying efforts, and acts of civil disobedience. For many Americans, this movement represented a radical push for constitutional change, and few early advocates lived to see the final victory in 1920. Although the ratification of the 19th Amendment was a significant achievement, it did not guarantee full enfranchisement for all women. The struggle continued for decades as African American women and other minority women faced ongoing disenfranchisement due to discriminatory state voting laws. The promise of voting rights would not be fully realized for many until well into the 20th century. Exercise your right to vote in November 2024! #19thAmendment #HistoryMade #StandUpSpeakOut

If you read this law and feel that you don't benefit from it, you are likely in the category of people who's voice and existence is not 'silenced', or who's ancestor's voices and existence were not 'silenced.' It's okay, now you know why The Voting Rights Act of 1965 is so important and has a place in our constitution and our democratic republic. "The Voting Rights Act of 1965, which marks its 59th anniversary on Aug. 6, reduced discriminatory practices that prevented Black citizens from voting and led to a dramatic increase in the participation of Black voters in U.S. elections. The law, which has been extended several times, prohibits discrimination based on race, color, or language-minority status in registration and voting nationwide. The law also provides protections for blind voters and voters with disabilities." - Excerpted from the article #civilrights #equality #vote #hearmeout #NOV5
