The English Devolution White Paper published today included positive noises from government around devolution of rail services, such as ensuring Mayors have the right to request greater devolution of services, infrastructure and stations. It also mentioned the future relationship between devolved transport delivery and Shadow GBR. Hannah Moxon, Director of External Affairs, Rail Partners: ‘It’s good to see the English Devolution White Paper recognising the success of devolved rail operations in London and Liverpool. ‘For devolution to deliver for passengers, Metro mayors need appropriate control over rail services, as part of an integrated transport system, to deliver meaningful improvements. ‘How Great British Railways interacts with local bodies, while running the railway as a national network, will be key to ensuring devolution is a success.’

Land use matters to public transport! If you build places that are hostile to transit, there's no amount of planning or investing your way to world-class service and ridership. Check out this clear, smart guide to how we make urban form good for transit from the outset.

Buses should matter to city planners, but they usually don't. Working with Ireland's National Transport Authority, we've just written the guidebook that they need. It's free. Read all about it: https://lnkd.in/gSFsPQQT

Buses are a central element of virtually all transit systems, even in cities with extensive rail. Bus ridership is also recovering faster than rail. If cities are serious about transit, they need to be serious about buses. And id they’re serious about buses, they need to hire Jarrett Walker. Nobody is better.

Thanks to the work of the Pyrmont Peninsula Public Transport Forum, Transport for NSW (Transport) has continued investigations into possible adjustments to route 389 in Pyrmont. This is an exciting development as the changes to bus route 389 in the Pyrmont area will address passenger feedback, improve access to Darling Harbour and the Maritime Museum, and provide improved interchange opportunities between bus and light rail services. To accommodate these changes, it is planned to make changes to kerbside parking and loading arrangements on Murray Street north of Pyrmont Bridge Road. Click here for more information from Transport for NSW (include in this link the attached PDF) WHAT WE NEED YOU TO DO We need your help as Transport for NSW needs your feedback by 5 pm, Friday 7 June 2024. We need you to: Step 1: write an email supporting this addition of a new bus stop Step 2: send the email to buschanges@transport.nsw.gov.au Step 3: please do this by 5 pm Friday, 7 June 2024

Thomas "Alec" More, AICP and the SRF Consulting Group team are working with the Lower Savannah Council of Governments to create a more useable and safe public transportation system! Check out the local coverage. Alec says, “We’ve really learned that there is a market for public transportation services in Aiken County. But we’ve also certainly learned that there are opportunities that we can improve the performance of the service, the efficiency of the service, and just make it a more useful service overall to Aiken and North Augusta." https://lnkd.in/g2fXGBcx

📢 Support My Petition: Ensure Fare Transparency for ScotRail Passengers I’ve submitted an update to petition to the Scottish Parliament calling for action to ensure ScotRail passengers are always provided with information on the cheapest possible fare. It’s going to be heard on 11 December. As proposals to reduce ticket office operations move forward, I’m concerned about the impact on: 🔸 Fare transparency – Many customers struggle to access cost-effective options like split-ticketing because of digital exclusion. 🔸 Digital limitations – ScotRail’s online systems don’t currently offer comprehensive fare-finding tools. 🔸 Fair access – Those reliant on in-person assistance may face higher costs. 💡 What I’m asking for: 1️⃣ Advanced digital tools to display all cost-saving ticket options. 2️⃣ Public education on split-ticketing and digital systems. 3️⃣ Equal access to fare savings across all service channels by maintaining ticket office estate and recognising its importance for sales but also passenger safety. This petition promotes affordable, accessible public transport in line with ScotRail’s duties under the Consumer Scotland Act 2020 and our net zero ambitions as a nation. 🚉 Join me in advocating for fairer travel! Read and support the petition here: https://lnkd.in/ebCpXiXM Let’s ensure no one pays more than they should to travel. #FairTravel #ScotRail #PublicTransport #Petition Liz Warren-Corney Monica Lennon Alastair Dalton Chris Musson Jackie Baillie Jon Molyneux

'Building a successful Public Transport Network' A brilliant webinar on the components to making a bus trip as attractive as a car trip Some food for thought from the speakers 1. Do not aim for second best when planning for a public transport network to compete with car 2. A fuel duty freeze is not an effective policy decision to reduce transport poverty 3. Define who the passenger is https://lnkd.in/en6AH4NK #publictransport #sustainablemobility

While transportation options such as buses and trains form the core of our transit systems, non-traditional transportation systems such as aerial systems, bike sharing, and ferries should not be overlooked as they expand and fortify our networks, and elevate the eco-friendliness of our transportation landscape. Check out Mass Transit magazine's latest article that references CUTRIC-CRITUC's latest research report on the importance of non-traditional transportation systems: https://lnkd.in/eHTUwrk6
