Stephen Porges writes, 'When we feel unsafe changes occur in our bodies which are just as dramatic as actually changing into the Incredible Hulk'. Actually knowing what makes you FEEL emotionally safe in the classroom is essential for creating a positive classroom. When we 'feel' safe we give off signals of safety to others, and we have the capability of receiving signals of safety back. When we don't recognise our own stress and anxiety, we don't recognise that we are compounding not only our own anxiety but others' feelings of insecurity by signalling cues of danger Feeling emotionally safe is a key nurture principle for learning. In a setting that supports learners who have experienced severe trauma, a daily reset can provide a fresh start, fostering a positive learning environment and creating opportunities for growth after challenging experiences. It allows for a focus on individual learning needs and promotes a supportive atmosphere for those who may require additional understanding and care. Furthermore, staying updated on pedagogy and utilising a variety of teaching tools is crucial in SEMH provision. This approach helps address diverse learning needs, enhances engagement, and allows for a more personalized and effective support system for learners who have experienced severe trauma. #semh #education #teachingandlearning

At TCK Education Consultants; trauma-informed practices are a strengths-based approach that acknowledges the widespread impact of trauma on student's lives. It's about understanding and responding to the potential effects of trauma on individuals, families, and communities. So here we have 3 subtitles for trauma informed practices: -Building Trauma Informed Systems: Being trauma-informed is a lens through which educators can reflect, analyze, and design their classroom and school structures. -Creating Safe Spaces: Meeting all students where they are is not just an academic imperative, but it is also essential for the growth and development of the whole child. -Disrupting Deficit Narratives: Redefining classroom management starts with dismantling punitive systems and, instead, implementing restorative practices that focus on wellbeing which is essential to being trauma-informed. #tckeducation #NYC #education #educators #students #learning #teaching #school #futureofeducation #EducationForAll

'More than one in three children and young people are exposed to at least one potentially traumatic event by age 18. The right support can make a substantial difference to the extent that traumatic events impact on their lives' (UK Trauma Council). Educators have an important role to play in reducing the impact of any trauma held by their students. With training, educators are able to better understand the impacts of trauma and start to address their student’s needs more effectively through positive classroom practices and techniques. ➡️ Accredited training: https://lnkd.in/deZkxkne
