Many young adults rely on their parents for financial and emotional support well into their twenties. But what about those who "graduate" from foster care each year? These young people often enter adulthood abruptly and without the same level of support. While some states offer extended foster care, many of these vulnerable young adults deserve even more. They need the kind of creativity and commitment that biological and adoptive parents provide for their own children. If you want to learn more about this important issue and how we can support these young adults, read the full article below: https://lnkd.in/eVY_fTGi Youth Empowerment Success Services - Helping Youth become housed, educated, employed, and connected 💚 www.yess4youth.org #FosterCare #SupportYoungAdults #EveryChildMatters #YouthEmpowerment #FosterCare #AgingOut

New beginnings and endless possibilities start with opening your home to an older youth. The Education and Training Voucher (ETV) Program provides financial aid to support young adults from foster care as they pursue post-secondary education and training. Learn more here. If you’re considering becoming a foster family for an older youth, Aria shares, "Taking in older kids can be challenging, but they truly need a loving home. Remember, parenting doesn’t stop when they turn 18. Often, they have no one else but their foster parents, so keep that in mind when deciding to foster." https://lnkd.in/gXDzxpKM #SupportSDFosterCare #SouthDakotaFosterCare #FosterCareSD #SupportSDKids #SDKidsNeedYou #BeAFosterParent #ChangingLivesSD

When children are first admitted to foster care, it is requested that we provide them a “place of safety”. But for those who have experienced trauma, feeling safe requires far more than a location. A compassionate, loving foster home is the environment where we can begin to form #connection, build #trust, and promote #healing. That is when foster children, youth, and young adults can begin to feel safe — truly safe. 🔷 Learn about who we are: 🔹 https://lnkd.in/g6GFm6rm 🔶 How we prioritize trauma-informed care: 🔸 https://lnkd.in/geuhwSY7 #connectionmatters #fostercare #fosterparents #fosterparenting #childwelfare #traumainformedcare #gabormate
