The World Green Infrastructure Conference is being held in Tāmaki Makaurau September 3-5, 2024 and nominations for the World Green Infrastructure Awards 2024 are currently open, closing on July 15, 2024.(www.wginawards.org) This prestigious competition aims to celebrate and recognize excellence in the field of building integrated greening and other green infrastructure projects, as well as associated academic research, student work, and policy. The competition will recognize excellence across six key categories: Green Roofs: Celebrating exemplary vegetated roof projects. Green Walls: Honoring outstanding green façades, living walls, and other building-integrated greening solutions. Green Neighborhood Scale and On-grade Projects: Recognising urban landscape projects that incorporate multifunctional vegetative planting and design. Green Infrastructure Policy: Highlighting excellence in public or private sector policies that promote best practices and accelerate the uptake of urban green infrastructure. Green Infrastructure Research and Academic Work: Acknowledging performance and excellence in green infrastructure-related research and academic projects. Green Infrastructure Student Posters: Recognizing innovative ideas and projects from students in the green infrastructure field. ePAPHOS TEAMWORK AT Energy & Solidarity – Putting the Plan for Grids into Action Since its foundation in 2009, RGI has been promoting pathways for Europe to build the necessary grid and renewable infrastructure for the energy transition protecting nature, restoring biodiversity, and creating meaningful involvement of local communities. Now, with the Action Plan for Grids, these aspects are as relevant as ever and increasingly interlinked. Our conference will therefore bring them together while focusing on solidarity and cooperation in times when polarisation is growing bigger every day. Why Energy & Solidarity? As a basic value of the European Union, solidarity is key for decarbonisation considering the energy challenges that European countries face cannot be solved unilaterally. Decision-making must be fair and just, especially for the wildlife and communities that are most affected by infrastructure build-up. To promote private-sector participation in initiatives that accelerate a #greentransition in the #Philippines, IFC - International Finance Corporation is partnering with the European Union (EU) under the Green Economy Programme for the Philippines (GEPP), part of the EU's new Global Gateway initiative. Launched in March 2024 by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and the European Union, the GEPP was established to enhance waste management, support the transition to a sustainable, #circular economy, accelerate the deployment of #renewable energy, and promote technologies that can improve #energyefficiency in the country. https://lnkd.in/ejqKa5dQ

European waterborne partnership is key for a resilient, competitive and sustainable future WaterborneTP welcomes the Opinion of the Partnership Knowledge Hub on European Partnerships under the future EU Framework Programme. Eero Lehtovaara: We welcome the report of the Partnership Knowledge Hub on the relevance and the rationale of future European Partnerships. The report is fully in line with the vision of the Waterborne Technology Platform, which is coordinating the private side of the Partnership on Zero-Emission Waterborne Transport. In this Partnership, half of the members are from the private sector, and the other half from the research world, which is the mix needed to best understand societal challenges. However, as indicated in the report, deployment of these innovations is and will remain key to achieve strategic objectives. In the European waterborne sector, this can only be done in the context of an ecosystem, from infrastructure, sufficient quantities of alternative fuels and electricity, to the installation of new technologies on board vessels. The “team Europe” approach will remain indispensable, and we are looking forward to shaping the content of a future Partnership together with the European Commission Services, Member States and Associated Countries, our members and the broader European waterborne sector. 🌊 Today, Christian Galletta attended the Clean energy for EU islands (CE4EUI) workshop in Brussels to present the pioneering CRETE VALLEY project and its innovative #DigitalTwin initiative. During the "EU projects enhancing smart EU islands" session, he emphasized how this digital twin technology will facilitate Crete's shift to #RenewableEnergy, ensuring the optimization of the island's energy infrastructure takes into account the #SocialInnovation dimension. The workshop focused on smart electricity systems for island decarbonization, uniting key stakeholders in advancing demand-side management and flexibility solutions. It was organised by Δίκτυο ΔΑΦΝΗ / DAFNI Network within the CE4EUI Secretariat, and introduced by Edita Dranseikaite (DG ENER). We look forward to new socio-technological advancements shaping sustainable island communities! 🏝️

Earlier today, we joined forces with CEMBUREAU to co-host the breakfast event "The role of carbon capture in decarbonising energy-intensive sectors" at the European Parliament, all thanks to the sponsorship of Seán Kelly MEP. With interventions from the MEP himself, CEMBUREAU ’s Koen Coppenholle, Alessia Virone from Clean Air Task Force and Rodolphe Nicolle, Secretary-General of the European Lime Association (EuLA) and Chair of CCS Europe, the event sparked a very productive discussion on the future of CCS. Among the many policy recommendations required to achieve net-zero, we’ve outlined the following: - Electrification is crucial but insufficient for heavy industries, making CCS indispensable for decarbonisation. - Hard-to-abate sectors require tailored solutions such as CCS, in order to address unique process emissions and regulatory needs. - Scaling decarbonisation requires robust CO2 transport and storage infrastructure, de-risked value chains, and strategic funding mechanisms. - Clear communication about CCS safety and benefits is vital to improve public perception. - Achieving net-zero requires coordinated EU action, international partnerships, and regulatory certainty to drive innovation and investment. Kenya Ships Agents Association participated in a focused Maritime Decarbonisation & Energy Transition workshop alongside key stakeholders, hosted by the KENYA MARITIME AUTHORITY, PtX Hub, and the International Maritime Organization - IMO Green Voyage initiative. Stakeholders from across the maritime sector gathered to explore the challenges and opportunities that maritime decarbonization presents. The workshop delved into advancements in zero-carbon fuel production, evolving policies, and strategies for optimizing the production and distribution of zero-carbon fuels. Key discussions also revolved around accessing funding and investments into energy-efficient technologies, and establishing partnerships with the industry to develop new and innovative solutions to support low-carbon shipping. With shipping responsible for 3% of global CO2 emissions, this workshop is a crucial step towards realizing the LEAP (Low Emissions Accelerator Program) and driving significant investments in reducing emissions.

Getting the narrative and story behind an infrastructure project right is essential, especially in today’s landscape. In the #CCS space where high industry interest creates extremely competitive forums where projects compete for consent, licensing, funding, and attention. Borrowing some language from today’s Conservative manifesto launch - 'in an increasingly unstable world there is a need to boost the UK’s energy independence' – the same can be said globally with new projects, technologies and investment entering the market.
