National Park Service’s Post

We need to talk about your flair… Ever thought about becoming a junior ranger? Haven’t we all? To become a Junior Ranger, you have to embark on a series of challenges that will test your wilderness and people skills. People skills never hurt, right? Also, your knowledge of preservation, history, and why national parks are so special. It's like a park service-themed obstacle course, but with less mud, more learning, and definitely not having to wrestle a raccoon or two to earn the badge. That was one time, and the raccoons started it. Once you've conquered all the challenges, aka completed your Junior Ranger booklet, and impressed the park rangers on duty with your dedication to parks, you'll be rewarded with your own flair, like a badge or patch, a certificate, and most importantly, the ranger’s unwavering R.E.S.P.E.C.T. Find out what it means to…..oh, you did. Cool. It’s kind of a big deal. See you in the parks! Learn more: https://lnkd.in/eNbiHYY Have you done the junior ranger program at a park? How many badges have you collected? P.S. Wrestling raccoons is not a sanctioned Junior Ranger activity. When I learned there was not an age limit, I started collecting Junior Ranger badges. I just added these to my collection - Channel Islands and Pinnacles. The program makes you an active park visitor.

My parents worked summers, so we never got to go on a big “visit lots of parks!” family trip and I don’t think I ever knew about the Junior Ranger program as a kid. But I *love* swearing kids in at work now and telling them how lucky they are to have this opportunity I didn’t have at their age.

I too want to hang out with this rockstar. I’ve an obsession. It’s the National Park system. The lovely Mrs. and I returned from White Sands, Carlsbad, and Guadalupe Mt in Feb. Rocky Mountain scheduled for June. And Voyager and Isle Royale late this summer. And your out-of-reply is honest. You have zero access to cell or email. And you wouldn’t want it any other way.

I’ve got about 130 badges so far and my hat is no longer wearable 😂 I can’t wait to do this with my own kids someday!

Outstanding program! One Ranger taught my son how to differentiate between black and grizzly bears. It was so helpful to learn that after you punch the bear in the nose and scramble up a tree that if it follows you up the tree it’s a black bear, and if it rips the tree out from under you it’s a grizzly bear.

"...if you want me to wear 37 pieces of flair, like your Junior Ranger over there, why don't you just make the minimum 37 pieces of flair?!"
