“I want to champion the ways reading and writing poetry can situate us in the natural world." - U.S. Poet Laureate Ada Limón Poetry in Parks is an initiative to install poetry on picnic tables in seven national parks. It's the first partnership between the National Park Service, Library of Congress, U.S. National Poet Laureate, and Poetry Society of America. As public works of art, the picnic tables will each feature a historic American poem selected by the 24th U.S. National Poet Laureate, Ada Limón. Limón selected the poems to encourage visitors to pay deeper attention to their surroundings. Limón will travel to each of the parks in the summer and fall of 2024 to unveil the new installations. Love all of our National Parks - it's worth visiting them, respecting them and keeping them safe.

👏 I want to save another 50 million acres from ever being developed for any use other than it’s natural habitat.

This is a great idea! I would also love for this idea to be expanded to children's poetry competitions. This would increase pride in the parks, from current generations. I would like to see a 3rd grade student's Haiku on a bench. 🌲 🐞 🌻 ❤️

I'll be in Saguaro this Winter, so I'll have to look for the installation there. Thanks for sharing.

I love this! Creative ideas for public art are so exciting to me. What better way to mindfully pause and fully take in the beauty around you than through a little poetry!

Visited #MuirWoods again recently with my 90 year mother - how blessed are we? Such a magnificent and spiritual place, so well kept by National Park Service
