𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗮’𝘀 𝗚𝗼𝘁 𝗧𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗻𝘁! As the operator of Talentport, a remote work platform, I often get clients wanting to hire talent from the Philippines. Why? Because it’s the offshoring hub of the world and they speak good English. Tried and tested. When I propose they give Indonesians a shot for the same role, I often get raised eyebrows. Behind their muted responses I can almost hear their doubts out loud. ♦ Can Indonesians speak English? ♦ Aren’t they mostly blue-collar workers? ♦ Are they customer and business savvy? The truth is I too was once skeptical UNTIL I actually BEGAN working with Indonesians. 𝗦𝗞𝗜𝗟𝗟 I was a tech dinosaur with no knowledge of how to launch a start up. Clueless about Airtable, Notion, Canva, or even Hubspot - critical tools in a startup operator’s toolkit. But for my young Indonesian colleagues, they could navigate their way and build complex workflows/ designs on those platforms without batting an eyelid. 𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗠𝗨𝗡𝗜𝗖𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 Sure it wasn’t perfect. But all our meetings are conducted entirely in English and nobody misses a beat! Youtube, Netflix and most recently ChatGPT have been great equalisers in the quest for English proficiency. 𝗔𝗧𝗧𝗜𝗧𝗨𝗗𝗘 Best of all, their dedication to the job. Taking calls on Saturdays, answering emails at 2am in the morning, going the extra mile to find the right candidate - my Indonesian team mates have been the bedrock of Talentport. They have never let me down. I drink my own Kool-Aid everyday. I want the world to see what I see in young Indonesians. Last year, we placed nearly 100 Indonesians across various roles in Singapore and the US. And I’m just getting started. Talent is universal but opportunities are not. Have you worked with young Indonesians before? What has your experience been like?

Stopping the brain drain in Myanmar 🧠 | Remote Hiring & HR-as-a-Service | Startup Event Organiser | Serial Entrepreneur, Investor & Globe Trotter [68 Countries, 365 Cities & Counting]
🗞 Fresh off the press: 2024 Myanmar Top Talent Salary Guide 💰 The team at Crossworks Myanmar has recently updated our popular salary guide from hiring 100+ remote employees for 45+ companies in Singapore, Europe and USA. 🔥 = hot roles, ⬆ = uptrend & ⬇ = downtrend. ✨ Quick observations: 1️⃣ Tech continues to be a booming sector with neighbouring regional markets hitting a point of saturation and costs creeping up, more companies are exploring talent from Myanmar 🇲🇲 2️⃣ The accountant shortage is real in Singapore- we've onboarded 10 accountants in 2023 alone 💱! See this Business Times article: https://lnkd.in/gF4a86sv 3️⃣ AI has definitely had a depressive effect on entry-mid level content writing and marketing salaries 📉 4️⃣ Myanmar talent tend to stay with companies LONGER (perhaps owing to less opportunities, engagement initiatives & loyalty)- with ~75% staying beyond the first year! 💪 5️⃣ Startups and SMEs are adopting a cautiously optimistic 'land and expand' strategy when tapping on remote talent. We now have 3 companies who hire at least 7 team members through Crossworks (up from 0 this time last year). 6️⃣ Most entrepreneurs/founders are pleasantly surprised by the English communication standards and work ethic- much thanks to the country's British colonial past as well as the team's curation for the best & brightest 🚀 🔗 For a detailed salary guide, head over to https://lnkd.in/gsFbknfN where our service fees are also shared transparently. 100% of salary/bonuses gets paid out to our employees and we charge a flat and competitive fee that we believe our value-add far exceeds. P.S. If you are making growth plans for 2024 and want to have a chat, I'm available in Singapore till the end of the year or virtually and happy to share more about the talent landscape in Myanmar and see if we can help you! #crossworks #hiring #remotework #remotehiring #talent #myanmar #salary #salaryguide #people #singapore #startups #smes

How do you work from Thailand? 🏝 Many asked me about our approach at Joko with the 3-month Work From Anywhere (WFA) policy, especially at a time when other companies are retracting their remote options. The answer is simple: with the right people, processes, and communication tools in place, we seamlessly maintain efficiency. Some companies stepped back because they struggled to identify the issues in their policies and lacked an in-depth understanding of the challenges, discussions, and processes needed for resolution. Opting for a return instead of investing the effort required to make it work, they chose to give up. Luisa Severo is in Brazil to spend quality time with her family, avoiding the rush of "too fast to enjoy" 2 weeks she would have if we did not allow WFA, I'm in Thailand, and yet our organization runs business as usual. Saying no to remote is like saying no to progress, especially in the work culture of Tech startups. At Joko, we take the time to build the right processes and alignment across teams, supported by a sophisticated communication toolkit outlined in our employee handbook. The good news is, it's working exceptionally well and it allows me to contribute meaningfully but also spend quality time in my country of adoption 🇹🇭 #joko #companyculture

Co-Founder @ The Honest Tech Company | Automation Specialist | ✈️ Travel Enthusiast Helping Businesses scale with tech solutions to increase revenue and serve more clients 🔥
Took a little detour to the Golden Triangle on a weekday – the calendar was empty so why not? That's the beauty of running an automated biz; it gives you the freedom to wander. Sitting where Laos, Myanmar, and Thailand meet, I couldn't help but think about how tech has shaped our lives. I caught a Forbes piece recently saying project managers, developers, and online marketers are the online jobs to watch in 2024. No shock there with the AI wave we're riding, right? It's pretty much what we're all about at The Honest Tech Company – using tech to let business owners do more of what they love (like random Thursday adventures!). What's your take on all this? Seen these trends play out in your world? #GoldenTriangle #TechLife #BusinessAutomation #FutureOfWork #OnlineJobs #TechTalk #thailand #travelthailand #freedombusiness --- Hope this feels more like a natural conversation starter, Colleen!

It’s time for a story… I am back home in England to see family after 18 months working remotely in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Taiwan, South Korea and Japan. Up until early 2015, I spent 40 years living in the same city and spent 23 of those years working 9-to-5 in an office. For the past 10 years, I have been living in a different country every 30-90 days, and experienced life in many different cultures. It has been a life changing experience. I have proven that you don’t have to live how society expects. You can build a life on your terms. Sure, it’s full of challenges. Yes, you have to make sacrifices. I’m not going to sit here and say it’s easy. It’s not, but it’s better than the alternative. We live in a world post-pandemic which makes it easier than ever before to live abroad. Improving your quality of life, cheaper cost of living which means you can save more money and build a better future. Next week, I will be applying for the Malaysia nomad pass which will allow me to live and work there for up to two years. Interested in learning more about this topic? Follow The Remote Hive LinkedIn page and I will share more soon. #digitalnomad #remotework

As we wrap up the first quarter of 2024, and now I'm back home, I'm taking a moment to reflect on working remotely for 3 months from some of the most vibrant places in Southeast Asia - Vietnam, Malaysia, and Northern Thailand. Embracing the digital nomad lifestyle, I've discovered the profound impact of changing environments on my creativity and productivity. Proving that with the right mindset, remote work can break boundaries and elevate performance despite the obvious stereotypes pre-covid. For me, this quarter has been marked by significant achievements with clients both new and old. Despite the miles, there are stronger connections, thanks to the power of technology and a shared commitment to achieving great results. The success stories from this quarter are a testament to the fact that distance is no barrier to effective collaboration and mutual growth. Thanks to all of the non-profits and brands I have had the pleasure to work with so far this year! #RemoteWork #DigitalNomad #ProfessionalGrowth #ClientSuccess #SoutheastAsia

Just thought I would share an update on my Phuket, Thailand journey. If this kind of post bores you, please just move to the next post in your feed... :-) I love this place, the culture and the lifestyle here, and would not trade this place for almost anywhere else. When I arrived over three years ago during covid, I quickly found I could not walk the beach everyday - perfect though the beaches are here, especially in the mornings and evenings...I just needed to be busy. After 40 years of being busy, the transition to a more sedentary life was not one I was ready for. So....in three years I have been busy! First I have helped 7 startups in different capacities from MD to GTM Strategy Co-Founder and others. I still help Mondonomo as we seek both an Angel Investor and kick off a range of Human Name based projects. I am fascinated by this startup, with recognising, understanding, correctly pronouncing and transliterating human names being one of the last big gaps in NLP and LLM capabilities. Mondonomo has solved this (again using AI....) - message me if you are curious to know more. I also established a local Real Estate Company (more on this in a separate post shortly) and this has proved timely as Phuket real estate JUST BOOMS!!. We have 4 property projects underway, and if anyone reading this is curious about a Phuket "bolt hole" or investment please message me direct. Now is the time! Another local expat and I have also established the Phuket Business Lunch which meets every 2 weeks or so over lunch to network and "compare notes" - floral shirt and shorts are the norm.... Per a previous post, I finished with Storyblok pre-Xmas after 2 great years selling the "world's best CMS" across APAC, and I am in the home straight of securing my next globally remote working role. With Phuket's international airport 10 mins from my Villa, I can be pretty much be anywhere I need to be in the world. And for the doubters (can't believe there are still some..) leading a remote based sales team from a central SE Asian location really works!! This combination of living in paradise and working remotely and globally at the same time, is frankly my personal nirvana - for this stage in my life - again if anyone is curious about how to do this, please message me. You would be joining literally thousands of European, US and Australasian families and heaps of long stay nomads now making this place home. Many simply seeking a better quality of life (and climate) for themselves and for their children. On a separate post I will talk about the real estate options here. Meantime enjoy James Bond Island, a short long tail boat ride from the Pier not far from home. 😎
