Last week 8 contractors/ freelancers messaged me ranting about their gigs - here’s what I think: → Treating contractors/ freelancers like employees will get you into serious trouble. → Setting clear expectations and giving a detailed brief is a must. → Sharing payment cycles and payment updates is a must. → Using AI bots only to give feedback is the wrong move. → Giving regular individual feedback goes a long way. → Using compassion is a better choice than fear. I get it! Managing contractors/ freelancers is like being in the dark sometimes with many rules attached. That’s why you have your HR team to help you and guide you. So that you can build a high-performing team that helps you scale. If you don’t have that person, think of bringing in a Fractional HR or a consultant to help you handle the situation. This is a short-term fix for longevity that’ll be more affordable – but won’t compromise your team morale. PS. I help my clients in such cases. Today's workforce is more dynamic than ever, with employees increasingly willing to explore new opportunities. Factors like remote work, the fierce competition for talent, and the allure of higher compensation have made it easier for employees to transition between jobs. While employees may have greater flexibility, freelancers often demonstrate a higher level of commitment to their clients. They are more likely to honor contractual obligations, often due to reputational concerns and the potential impact on future business opportunities. Additionally, contractual agreements for freelancers can sometimes be more restrictive compared to traditional employment contracts.
