The 67th NATO Explosive Ordnance Disposal Working Group (EODWG) is set to take place this month at the Canadian Forces Base Halifax, hosted by Canada. This group, established by the NATO Military Committee and organized under the Military Committee Land Standardization Board (MCLSB), aims to promote standardization across EOD forces of member countries for increased flexibility and operational effectiveness, as well as cost-sharing. The EODWG is divided into four panels: Doctrine Policy and Philosophy; Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures; Information; and Standardization. Each panel is responsible for multiple standardization agreements (STANAGs) that cover various topics related to NATO EOD forces. Members of the EOD Technology Center’s International Program Office (IPO), along with members from the military service detachments at Stump Neck, Maryland, will participate the NATO EODWG, providing valuable insight to the panels and coordinating with our NATO partners to ensure the NATO EOD force is able to operate in a joint environment.

#NATO’s premier crisis prevention and management exercise STEADFAST DAGGER 2024 concluded at the Joint Warfare Centre (JWC) on December 5. Directed by the JWC, the exercise was designed to train Allied Reaction Force 2025 (#ARF 25) in planning and executing non-Article 5 #multidomain operations outside NATO territory. Addressing the Exercise Control (EXCON) team at the conclusion of the exercise, Major General Ruprecht von Butler, Commander JWC and the Exercise Director, said: "Thank you for your critically important work in making NATO better and contributing to the collective readiness of our great Alliance. This is a big responsibility, because it is our mission to make NATO perform as effective as possible on operations – be it for collective defence or outside NATO territory – and help deliver interoperability and warfare advantage for the Alliance." Approximately 1,000 military and civilian staff participated in STEADFAST DAGGER 2024. NATO’s Defence Industrial Production Board met for the second time at NATO HQ in April to deliver recommendations and advice to NATO’s National Armaments Directors. The Senior Representatives from Allied nations, representing 55% of the world’s military expenditure (SIPRI), provide their expert review of proposals to sustainably increase industrial capacity, approaches to secure defence critical supply chains and took a deeper look at the interoperability challenges surrounding energetics and components for battle decisive munitions, including considering options for strategic stockpiling. The Senior Representatives gave their direction and guidance on these complex, global challenges that require equally as nuanced responses. At a recent meeting in Copenhagen, the 5 Nordic Ministers of Defense met to discuss the deepening of the Nordic Defense Cooperation (NORDEFCO). Sweden and Finland's entry into NATO means that all Nordic countries are now alliance members, and this opens up new opportunities for military integration. Among other items, the Ministers agreed to an initiative on the creation of cross-border corridors that will allow easier movement of troops and materiel between Nordic countries in both peace and wartime. These moves signal a broader intent to simultaneously improve interoperability among the Nordic militaries and demonstrate to the US that these countries are taking charge of their own defense and pulling their weight within NATO. 🇬🇧 🪖 The UK’s defense ministry plans to procure GLADIUS User Filled Off Route Mine systems from Alford Group, which will be used to support training, capability development, and boost NATO readiness and interoperability. The $1.23-million contract is proposed for an early 2025 award for an approximate duration of three months, depending on production timelines. 💡 The GLADIUS anti-tank mines are already operational with multiple elements of the UK Armed Forces and 11 other NATO nations.
