I recommend starting with the Challenges of Military Transition and reading about Voids to Fill first. This is a topic that doesn't get the attention it deserves. Replace purpose, identity, and tribe is critical to moving on after leaving the military.

The Green Beret Foundation (GBF) launched the Pineland Initiative on November 10, 2021. This new campaign focuses on expanding the Foundation’s scope of services to include pre-9/11 U.S. Army Special Forces soldiers and their families.
The Pineland Initiative, which launched in 2022, reflects a 3-year phased approach to growth and expansion of existing programs and services to accommodate the needs of the pre-9/11 Green Beret population. One key aspect of this expansion is the welcoming of additional Veteran Service Officers (VSOs) onboard GBF staff to meet the anticipated greater need for assistance with the preparation and prosecution of Veterans Affairs benefits and disability claims.
These new VSOs will bring with them the added benefit of providing a Foundation presence geographically located at each of the five Active Duty Special Forces Groups, and two National Guard Special Forces Groups, located around the country. The name “Pineland” pays tribute to the shared legacy of Green Berets, past and present.
This initiative is well-timed, as the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the U.S. Army Special Forces will be commemorated this coming June 19th. With Pineland being the first initiative in GBF’s history to support Green Berets of all generations, there’s an opportunity to honor those that laid the groundwork to make the Green Berets the world’s premier, elite special operations force.
The GBF is asking that those wishing to support the Pineland Initiative campaign consider making a commitment of support to the Foundation at the amount of just a $12 monthly recurring contribution.

Most of your posts are really laugh out loud Austin von Letkemann , but I think this is your best post yet.
The #cost and #businessmodel for changing the PCS #cycle is a really important conversation that impacts #retention and #recruitment goals across the #dod
Side note, my observations of the #airforce#servicemwmbwrs is that they have significantly longer dwell time on station, so my first thought is that the #army will be catching up to them.
Also, even though this is mostly about service members, similar considerations could be discussed about #civil#servants. There’s certainly benefits of cross pollinating best practices and techniques across a globally dispersed and diverse workforce.
After 22 years in the Army, I’ve seen firsthand how frequent Permanent Change of Station (PCS) moves impact soldiers and their families. Constant relocation is disruptive, making it hard for spouses to establish careers, children to form lasting friendships, and families to feel rooted in a community. It’s time we rethink the PCS model and consider adopting a 5-year cycle to provide more stability.
I've spent 19 straight years stationed at Fort Bragg (now Fort Liberty), and my career has thrived. Contrary to the belief that moving installations is the only way to progress, I’ve successfully navigated my career by moving from unit to unit within one installation. From spending 13years in SOF, 4 years in the 82nd a year as a MLC Instructor and a year at XVIII ABN CORPS G6. It’s possible, as long as the installation supports growth opportunities.
Staying in one place has allowed my family to build lasting connections, avoid constant upheaval, and create a sense of home—all while advancing my career. The benefits of a more stable PCS model extend beyond just personal life; it would also foster greater community cohesion, organizational continuity, and mission readiness.
For the Army and its soldiers, adopting a 5-year PCS model could be a win-win: maintaining career progression while supporting the well-being of military families.

5 year model for PCS?!
This could have significant impacts for the military family. From a healthcare perspective it has the potential to positively impact continuity of care- a major obstacle faced by the military community, especially those with family members with atypical or special needs enrolled in the EFMP.
