Deep in the vast Brazilian Amazon, live more Indigenous Peoples in Isolation and Initial Contact than anywhere else in the world… By law, these communities cannot be directly approached and their rights are protected to continue this life on their traditional territories. Their homes of intact rainforest are rich in endemic species. Although no biological surveys are permitted, these lands encompass the abundant biodiversity of the Amazon rainforest. Threatened species include: 🌿 Critically Endangered Wacapou tree 🌳 Endangered Pau-rosa (Rosewood) 🦦 Giant Otter 🐒 Black-faced Black Spider Monkey Their small communities and remote territories are particularly vulnerable to illegal activities by outsiders. Rainforest Trust and local partner, Observatory of the Human Rights of Isolated and Initial Contact Indigenous Peoples (OPI), are supporting work to designate three territories totaling 1,643,000 acres as Indigenous Lands. All uses outside those of resident Indigenous Peoples will be forbidden by Brazilian law. Triple your impact for these guardians of biodiversity! Home to more than 10% of the Earth’s terrestrial #biodiversity, the Amazon is the most extensive #rainforest on our planet. 🌎 🌴 On this #WorldWildlifeDay, we celebrate the resiliency of #Amazonian #fauna in the light of great #environmental challenges stemming from #climatechange and the destruction brought by extractive industries. 🌳 🌿 Almost half of the intact forests in the Amazon Basin are within #indigenous territories. Forested lands managed by #indigenouspeoples have lower rates of #deforestation and net #carbonemissions than other forested areas. We see hope in the #sustainable initiatives led by the communities with which we partner. 🦋 🔊 Per Jair Salazar Jacanamijoy of the Inga Reserve of Yurayaco, in Caquetá, Colombia, “We can teach and disseminate knowledge on how a territory is managed and conserved, on how it is possible to live from a territory without the need to destroy it, because we have been able to live from it through traditional practices.”🌱 #WWD2024 #ConnectingPeopleAndPlanet #DigitalInnovation #TechForWildlife #indigenousrights #wildlife #wildlifeday #nature #amazonrainforest #savetherainforest #savetheamazon #saveourplanet #noplanetb

We're on a mission to save the planet, and Globe Defenders: Rainforest Rescue isn't just an exciting adventure—it's packed with important lessons about protecting the environment! 🌍 In the story, Jess and Jack Rayworth dive into the Amazon rainforest, where they uncover how wildlife is being affected by deforestation and pollution, all thanks to a greedy organisation. Along the way, they learn just how vital it is to protect these habitats and the creatures living there. Here are some fun facts you can share with your kids to get them excited about the environment: 🌳 Trees Can Talk! Yep, trees actually communicate through an underground network, sending signals to keep each other safe from pests and diseases. 🎋 Bamboo Grows Super Fast! Bamboo can grow 35 inches in a single day—it's amazing for building, eating, and helping the planet thrive. 🐝 Bees Dance to Communicate! Bees have their own dance moves to show other bees where to find flowers, and they're key for pollinating the food we eat. 🌧️ Forests Help Make Rain! Forests draw water from the ground and release it into the air, helping control the weather and keep everything green. ✨ More Trees Than Stars! There are 3 trillion trees on Earth—more than the stars in the Milky Way! Each one plays a big role in keeping our planet healthy. If these facts spark your kids' interest in nature, they'll love Globe Defenders: Rainforest Rescue! It's a thrilling journey that teaches the importance of standing up for the environment. 🌱 Check it out on Amazon and let's all become Globe Defenders! 💪 Link in bio to join the adventure! #GlobeDefenders #RainforestRescue #FunNatureFacts #ProtectThePlanet #KidsAndNature #EnvironmentalHeroes #JoinTheAdventure

Since 2023, the Brazilian Amazon Fund has supported six key projects in Brazil that empower Indigenous communities to fight growing threats to their ways of life and biodiversity-rich territories, safeguard threatened species, and lock up carbon to mitigate climate change. However, there is still so much left to accomplish to save this rich and fragile forest and reach Rainforest Trust’s goal of safeguarding 20 million acres of the Brazilian Amazon. The Amazon rainforest is the largest on Earth, sheltering at least 3 million species – almost 50% of all terrestrial species across the globe 🌎 Take a look at Rainforest Trust’s most recent update which shows the tangible difference this work has against the destruction of this critically important ecosystem. VP of Growth - Growing the community that funds nature and rewilds the planet. Sharing my challenges & Playbook along the way. Inspiring innovation through nature posts 🌳🌊 PhD in Chemistry.
The top reason people who care about nature don’t actively protect it: They’re scared they don’t know how to. ...Or they don’t have the money to. How do you rewild an endangered species? Protect a rainforest? Revive a desert? Basically, how do you save life on Earth? Daunting? Oh yeah. (Especially while the Earth is literally on fire... facing a 65% increase in tree cover loss compared to two decades ago.) But you can overcome that fear by supporting the people who 𝐝𝐨 know how to tackle those massive tasks. ...Who also brings you in on their process so you feel like you’re right there with them. Here are some of my favourites: ✊🏼𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 (𝐂𝐈) In their own words, CI works to “improve the lives of people everywhere by protecting oceans, forests and other living ecosystems”. CI has also started making videos about their projects on LI –and they’re stunning. Check them out! 🦧𝐉𝐮𝐧𝐠𝐥𝐞 𝐊𝐞𝐞𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬 While they’re not on LinkedIn (yet), Jungle Keepers are the new conservationists to follow on IG. They do everything and anything to protect the Peruvian Amazon and its indigenous communities. And they document… all of it. Link to their account in the comments. 🌳𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐭 𝐖𝐢𝐥𝐝 The list wouldn’t be complete without PW! We’re on a mission to restore the planet through community funding. Each rewilding project helps restore endangered species and ecosystems and clean our oceans. And... we bring you on our journey through our YouTube videos. Link in comments. 🌿🌊 Today we celebrate #MangroveDay! Mangroves are incredible ecosystems that play a crucial role in maintaining the health of our planet. Did you know: 🌱 Mangroves act as natural coastal defenses, protecting shorelines from erosion and storm surges. 🐟 They provide vital breeding and nursery grounds for many marine species, supporting biodiversity. 🌳 Mangroves store up to 5 times more carbon per hectare than terrestrial forests, making them essential in the fight against #climatechange. 💧These unique trees thrive in salty environments, balancing freshwater and seawater to sustain their growth. My search bar this morning had the sweetest little addition – A floating Otter. ✨🦦 Happy World Otter Day 🦦✨ To celebrate these webbed-footed cuddlers, here are 5 facts about them: ↳ There are 13 species most of which are freshwater. ↳They have waterproof fur but not a fatty layer like other water-based creatures. For this reason, they have to keep themselves well-groomed, using the natural oils from their skin to coat their fur. ↳ When they want to nap/ sleep, they tangle themselves in kelp and other plants so they don’t float away in the current. A group of resting otters is called a raft. ↳Pups/kittens learn to swim when they’re two months old when mum pushes them into the water. ↳They eat up to 25% of their body weight each day. For sea otters this includes clams which they break open with rocks stored under their armpits. Like many other animals, most otter species are at risk from pollution, habitat loss, overfishing and conflict with fishermen. They were almost hunted to extinction in the 18th and 19th centuries for their fur. The sea otter is already on the IUCN red list and classed as endangered. As a keystone species, its super important we protect their habitats and reduce the risks to their existence. 💚 Sources: National Geographic, Oceana Canada 📸: Arthur Morris, Getty Images

Watch the toucans, coatis and squirrels of Argentina and Brazil navigate the #AtlanticRainforest whether they are searching for food or trying to hide from the jungle rain. 🍃🌧🌈 FOR WORLD RAINFOREST DAY, WILL YOU JOIN OUR COMMUNITY OF MONTHLY DONORS WHO HAVE PLEDGED TO PROTECT SOUTH AMERICA’S RAINFORESTS YEAR-ROUND? Defends wild places from deforestation, mining, and other unsustainable activities. Connects irreplaceable habitat for threatened plants and animals. Supports Indigenous and local communities in mapping, monitoring, and managing forests for the long-term. Preserves the services these ecosystems provide to us all, including clean water and a stable climate. NOT ALL RAINFORESTS ARE ALIKE., Rainforests are ecosystems that experience a large amount of annual rainfall. They support an incredible number of plants, animals, and other life forms. Although they occur in different parts of the planet, tropical rainforests are found on and around the equator where sunlight is consistent throughout the year. Nature and Culture International has projects and protected areas in rainforest ecosystems in many types of rainforest in South America. Our work occurs in the lowland Amazon rainforest, cloud forests in the Andes, and the Chocó forest of coastal Colombia and northern Ecuador.

The Circle of Life: How Berries Fuel Nature’s Cycle 🌱🦉 Did you know that berries play a vital role in the circle of life? 🫐🍓 When animals eat berries, they help spread the seeds far and wide, ensuring the growth of new plants. 🌿 These seeds, once dispersed, find their way into the soil, where they germinate and grow into new berry-producing plants, feeding a new generation of wildlife. This natural process is essential for maintaining biodiversity and keeping ecosystems healthy and thriving. 🌍 By understanding and supporting this circle of life, we can help protect our planet’s natural balance. #ceo #nature #mystory
