Interesting article. "...while it may seem counterintuitive, investing more in the domestic natural gas pipeline network could help the US reach net-zero emission goals more quickly and cheaply. Fortifying and upgrading the system could prepare the existing infrastructure to transport zero-carbon fuels as they become available and, in the meantime, reduce harmful methane leaks from natural gas."

Minnesota is transitioning towards a future where power is sourced from clean, renewable sources like wind and sun. This marks the fourth consecutive year Minnesota has obtained over half of its electricity from clean sources, a significant shift from a decade ago when most power came from polluting coal plants. #renewable #energy #explore #nature #community #climatechange
New report reveals surprising power sources making up almost one-third of Minnesota's energy supply: 'The rest of the country is taking notice'

The role of #Naturalgas has become increasingly important worldwide, be it economically, politically or industry-specific. It is also playing an important role in #energytransistion. Natural gas become essential to the #energy system, and especially to the #powergrid. About 30 or 40 years ago, people knew it simply as the gas on your stove or in your residential furnace. 60 percent of US emissions reductions have come on the back of converting coal to natural gas-fired #power #generation. #isgproviderlens #powerandutilities #2024study

Florida reverses energy transition by cranking fossil fuel use The United States' third most populous state has the country's dirtiest major power system, and looks set to become a stand-out by remaining highly dependent on #fossilfuels even as the rest of the nation transitions #power systems towards #cleanenergy. Fossil fuels generated over 80% of Florida's electricity supplies since the beginning of June, according to LSEG data. That was the highest fossil-fired power share in over three years for the summer period, and compares to 62.4% for the national average, 62% for the power system of Texas, and 72% for the main power system covering the southeast region. Florida's system is also the only major power network that has increased its overall fossil fuel dependency so far in 2024 compared to the year before. “There’s a difference between being able to project where the past is taking us and being able to create a different future that we would prefer to see.” Our Secretary General and CEO, Dr Angela Wilkinson spoke about the “mature conversation” needed across the entire global energy system to advance clean energy transitions in a recent interview by John Benny for The National News. From the importance of policymakers not solely relying on projections, to understanding the different energy demands of regions, she stressed that the energy decisions made by countries are never “one-dimensional”. 👉 Read the full interview here: https://lnkd.in/e7M-VfvB #energytransition #cleanenergy #renewableenergy #energysystems #energy

👉 At Wiloc, we believe it is necessary to think of the #EnergyTransition as a process driven by several factors. 🔋 #Decarbonization of industries through digital solutions is one of them. By incorporating cutting-edge technologies within the energy sector, it is possible to reduce the carbon footprint significantly. This is why this #digitization process should be a priority in industry conversations and, as a technology company, it is our duty to provide organizations with the necessary tools to make this happen.

The IEF - International Energy Forum's Joseph McMonigle makes a point that has been evident for anyone with the ability to understand the basic math of supply and demand, and read the charts showing emissions reductions in nations that adopted natural gas over higher-emitting fuels: "The narrative around natural gas has evolved," he said. "For too long, it was seen as a temporary bridge. Today, I stand before you to say natural gas is not just a bridge—it is a destination." Citing the importance of natural gas in meeting rising global energy demand and reducing emissions, Mr McMonigle highlighted the fuel's versatility and cleaner-burning properties. "Natural gas emits 50-60 percent less CO2 than coal, and in the U.S., the coal-to-gas switch has removed half a billion tonnes of CO2—more than all the wind and solar installed in the last 15 years combined." https://lnkd.in/e6MKfqBv

These are awesome. For me, the big one is that the Cost per Megawatt-hour for wind and solar are SO MUCH cheaper than coal or gas power plants, and only set to get even more affordable. The future is here and it makes economic sense. There is no point continuing to build expensive, polluting fossil fuel infrastructure. #renewables #phaseoutfossil
