For those who have been reaching out about career opportunities in water related sectors, here’s an interesting outlook.
"Water careers are stable, well-paid, high-quality, and inclusive career opportunities, and no one seems to know about them." Citing the "silver tsunami" and innovation in water reuse as some of the reasons for the growing need for talent in the water sector, CWEA (California Water Environment Association) makes a convincing pitch for careers in utilities. https://buff.ly/3RnmoE1 #watersustainability #waterfuture #waterjobs

As part of our ongoing partnership with Croydon Council, we’re committed to helping bridge this gap by offering valuable hands-on experience to the next generation of professionals. Last week, we had the pleasure of hosting Cris, who completed a comprehensive work experience placement with us. Throughout the week, Cris had the opportunity to shadow one of our experienced gas engineers, gaining insight into the day-to-day responsibilities of the role and developing a range of practical skills. This placement not only allowed Cris to build confidence and technical expertise, but also provided a real-world perspective. In today’s world, the sustainability of our environment has never been more critical, especially in the water sector. The challenge of attracting the next generation to the field of wastewater operations is becoming increasingly apparent. As experienced operators approach retirement, many of us in the industry are witnessing a significant shift in the recruitment landscape. Years ago, a single job posting could attract over 20 eager applicants. Now, we find ourselves fortunate to see even a handful of candidates. This dwindling interest is particularly concerning for those of us requiring Class 1 operators in Illinois, where the demand is expected to surge as seasoned professionals retire. The water sector is rapidly evolving, and with it, the roles and skillsets required. Today’s wastewater operations are not just about traditional skills but also encompass environmental science, technology automation, SCADA systems, electrical work, and IT support. This broadening of scope reflects the sector’s shift towards more sustainable practices, technological advancements, and the increasing importance of cybersecurity. This situation underscores a pressing need: the creation of a robust pipeline to ensure the continuity and reliability of our water systems. It’s not just about filling vacancies; it’s about safeguarding public health, protecting our environment, and maintaining the infrastructure upon which our communities depend. We must innovate our approach to recruitment, enhance training programs, and raise awareness about the critical and impactful work of water sector professionals. As part of the industry, I’m personally committed to being part of the solution. We need to inspire the next generation by promoting STEM education, offering apprenticeships, and highlighting the rewarding careers in water. Let’s come together to build a future where our water sector workforce is as resilient and diverse as the communities we serve. #wastewatermanagement #localgovernment #localgov #workforcedevelopment #shittyjob #wastewater

🌟 Current Job Trends in the U.S. Oil and Gas Industry 🌟 At WCL Group, we specialize in recruiting top talent for the oil and gas industry among other sectors, and we're excited to share some positive news about the O&G job market. Despite broader economic challenges, the oil and gas sector is showing remarkable resilience and growth. Here are some key insights: 1. Steady Job Numbers: As of July 2024, the U.S. oil field services sector supports around 647,559 jobs. This stability is notable even as the national unemployment rate climbs to 4.3%, the highest since October 2021. 2. Employment Growth: In June 2024, the sector added 968 jobs, reflecting a positive trend. This growth highlights the industry's ongoing recovery and adaptability. 3. Leading States for Employment: Texas leads with the highest number of jobs at 317,287, followed by Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Colorado. These states remain critical hubs for oil and gas employment. 4. Skills Demand and Retention: There's a high demand for skilled workers, with 81% of employees being headhunted for jobs outside the oil and gas sector. However, the majority prefer to stay within the industry, underscoring the need for employers to focus on retention through career progression and sustainability initiatives. 5. Sustainability and Technology: As the industry transitions towards more sustainable practices, there's an increasing emphasis on integrating technology and AI. Companies that prioritize sustainability and clearly communicate their climate goals are likely to retain talent better and attract new employees. At WCL Group, we are committed to connecting industry leaders with top talent.
