CMR case of the week: CARDIAC AMYLOIDOSIS Cardiac amyloidosis is a rare disorder caused by deposits of an abnormal protein (amyloid) in the heart tissue. It is a type of restrictive cardiomyopathy causing heart failure symptoms. In this case, we see diffuse patchy non CAD scar (the “white” by the red arrows) in nearly the entire “black” muscle of the heart myocardium. Patient also had an increased extracellular volume to 49% and a native T1 at 1194 msec on parametric mapping. Another day, another great case in the CMR lab😊 #WhyCMR

STUDY - Neurological and cardiac complications from the novel products have fatality rates of 5.9% and 2.5%, respectively. 698 individuals were included in the systematic review, of which 259 (37.1%) had cardiac and 439 (62.9%) had neurological complications. The most frequently reported complications were myocarditis, Guillain–Barré syndrome (GBS), ischemic stroke and exacerbations of multiple sclerosis. "mRNA [products] (all brands) were associated with almost 90.0% of the cardiac complications, whereas viral vector [products] were associated with slightly over half (52.6%) of the neurological complications. Cardiac complications were more common after the second dose (69.1%), whereas neurological complications were more common after the first dose (63.6%)." We may also consider thorough research on natural herbs, e.g. garlic, turmeric boiled, say, in milk or tea. One clove of garlic per day, and maybe 1 gm of turmeric in a cup of milk/tea seem harmless. Turmeric with apple cider vinegar also seems harmless. But for sure, best to check everything with some research. Besides, we should also include the food items that could help people have a healthy heart. Also, the synergistic effect the other lifestyle adjustments can have along with them. Oral health and gut health might also have a significant role. Actually, most of these measures are easy to implement. One just needs minor discipline or adjustments.
