One of the greatest joys in life - and in my work (advising leaders and their companies) is watching meaningful, purposeful, responsible growth. I've had a front row view watching Vincent Gérard Mourou - (my friend of 20+ years - not client) create an extraordinary company in a frontier - on its way to becoming an emerging - market. Marou - Faiseurs de Chocolat - is not only delicious, trendy, and fun, it supports jobs in its factory and shops within Vietnam. Marou has strong relationships with Vietnam's farming community: It buys cacao directly from farmers, pays them well, and only purchases 'sustainably grown cacao in cacao argoforestry systems that promote biodiversity.'

"In line with the 2024 economic trends, the majority of the fastest-growing developing countries in the world are located in Asia. To capitalize on this ideal potential, many businesses in the region are building specific supply chain processes designed for resilience and regeneration—contributing to multi-layered values both for the company and the home country. As a pioneer in establishing the bean-to-bar cacao model in Vietnam, Vincent Gérard Mourou, Founder and Director of Marou Faiseurs de Chocolat, shared his insights on the company's 'Vertical Integration' approach:
"We realized that, throughout the history of chocolate, the cacao has been leaving the country without any value coming back.
We have therefore turned the traditional model upside down by doing 'everything' in Vietnam. By adopting a vertically integrated process—from farm to factory—we have prioritized establishing a strong domestic market before expanding internationally through exports."
In this way, beyond the profits generated from chocolate product sales, Marou can contribute directly to the national economy by collaborating with and supporting farming communities across various regions, as well as driving the growth of domestic production."
